YouTube - Michael J. Fox Me, I love the guy, I think it's a shame we could have been advancing so much by now but we've been stopped, and that incumbents want to criminalize the research? That's just insane, and maybe shows why the WH calls religious right leaders "nuts"...

I'm not sure where the idea that he's being used comes from honestly. | ||||

| Who called him an idiot? People can support whomever they like. I just don't like it when other people use those supports for their own ends. | ||||

| I'm not sure what you mean? You seem to be suggesting that MJFox is being "used" somehow by a political candidate, rather than him wanting to get his message out through a political advertisement on an issue he cares deeply about. Seems much more like the latter to me. | ||||

| So he doesn't have any responsibility for his decision to participate in the campaign advertisement? He can't decide to participate because he believes in what she stands for without being "used"? | ||||

| Too bad you mentioned how we could be sooo far more advanced in your VERY FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD which is blatantly false. The bush admin has put more into stem cell research than any prior administration. We've gotten farther under bush than any prior administration. So this notion that we could be infinately farther ahead is wrong and quite honestly I dont see where its coming from. | ||||

| I think that is probably one of the most powerful campaign commercials that I have seen. Given that, I do not think anyone is being used in this situation. If anything they are both using each other. MJF is using this election stuff as an affective way to get his message across. At the same time the candidate is also making a powerful point in that she supports stem cell research. It is really a win/win situation for two people who are trying to send a message. Bush has opposed some critical things regarding stem cell research which has potentially slowed progress down. While the funding may have been increased there is probably some other things we could have been doing to make more progress that he prevented. | ||||

| The Missouri constitutional amendment does a few interesting things 1) very narrowly defines "cloning" for the sake of the amendment 2) bans said "cloning" (the first part of the doublespeak in the amendment) 3) allows other kinds of cloning not narrowly defined 4) forces taxpayers to pay for private corporations to clone humans, experiment with human body parts grown in labs, and engage in numerous other bad things 5) uses doublespeak to apparently not allow payment for eggs from women, then later says that compensation WILL be allowed, which creates a "market" for human eggs (basically it says that the company can't pay for the eggs themselves, but can compensate for travel, expenses, etc.) This is not "stem cell research", this will allow cloning, stem cell research, human fetal experimentation, and do all this at taxpayer expense. Sick, sick shit. | ||||
