I love how everyone in America has become an arm chair general since this thing broke out.

The Battle of Mogadishu lasted what, just over 24 hours?

During the battle, 18 American soldiers lost their lives, while it is estimated that over a thousand Somali civilians and militia were killed.

This was WITHOUT armor support.

To get back on the topic.. I think plenty of people expected the tide to turn in favor of Hezbollah.

In fact, the Lebanese PM said initially that the massive bombings and killing of innocent civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, etc, was creating support for Hezbollah where there was initially none.

You can't take action like this and expect otherwise, IMO. Given the choice between Israel and Hezbollah, I would guess the majority of the Arab world would choose Hezbollah.

The reason people use bombs and planes now a days isn't to lesson civilian casualties....it is to lesson your OWN casualties. If you guys fail to see how a bullet is less likely to kill a large group of civilians than a 500 pound bomb...there is no hope.

you fail to understand how combat works, an invasion force would use more than just rounds from a rifle to attack

In addition to 500 pound bombs, you would have small arms, armor, mortars, heavy artillery, etc.

Maybe you missed the post where it showed the battle of Mogadishu (aka Black Hawk Down) killed about 1000 people with no armor support.

I know all about that battle. My tattoo artist was there. But those 1000 people were shooting back at the soldiers on the ground. Those aren't "civilian" casualties.

I know. Grenades...rockets...tanks. It is all still less of an impact on the civilian population than dropping bombs and shelling randomly. At that time, you're actually getting shot at and you can tell where the shots are coming from with scouts and intel.

After reading the book I would say the civilians hurt and killed was REALLY high. Mostly because instead of running AWAY from the fighting they would run TOWARDS it to see what was going on. But in reality, the people of Lebonon probably know better then to run towards fighting.

the word "civilian" means different things to different people especially different cultures. the number of "civilian" deaths would go up dramatically if Israel invaded southern lebanon

especially since we've seen how they get out of the way when air raids are coming...

Yes like how Israel civilian population is basically less than 1% because they are a militarized society

Israel being militarized does change some things if you really want to think about it.

I don't think it justifies attacks on civilian and non military targets by any means, but if you want to look at it a certain way, many of those targets will one day be dressed in military garb and carrying out military operations for Israel.

Well morality is a matter of perspective

Among christians, it used to be a mortal sin to loan someone money with 0.1% interest rate, today we'd call that a godsend

I think its immoral to for a force to target teenager males destined to join the IDF and kill them, but I can certainly see where they are coming from and not judge them "evil"
