Why the rush to helathcare and the stall on Afganastan?

I'm really confused about something. If the dems could've gotten healthcare done back in the summer, with minimal debate, they would have. In fact Obama said a few times he wanted it done before August. The plan won't even go into effect until 2013.

But then when it came to Afghanistan it takes 7 months to come up with something? Something that will directly effect far less America citizens.

I'm really being serious and trying to figure out how we need to ram home a 2000 page healthcare bill that will in some way/shape/form effect every American citizen but and ongoing conflict in a foreign country can wait.
