The must watch race in TN

It seems Ford needs to win for the Dems to take over Congress, and is supposedly expected to.

Recently, however, it seems as though he's plagued with many of his own campaign problems.

He did a playboy flip-flop; he denied going to a playboy party before admitting it.

And now his dad has called white pro-lifers 'crackers', certainly a racist term, is it not? Or did he call them a 'tracker'?

Either way, it doesn't seem to be going so well for Mr. Ford, so we'll all have to keep our eyes on this race.

This race has become a nasty slug fest. Even I don't like that Playboy Bunny ad! And did you see when Ford showed up at his opponents outdoor press conference with his bus in tow! They shook hands and talked nice, but you know the other guy was mad as hell for that stunt!

I'll have to see some more numbers, wait until the final days, but this cycle could show two interesting things:

How homophobic southerners are
How racist southerners are

When Gallup conducts a phone interview, and people answer "Harold Ford, I'm going to vote for him" and he gets 50% of the vote and a 5pt lead, Gallup is a solid polling organization thats a good number

If it comes polling day and the polls have it close, maybe with a Ford edge in telephone interviews, and Corker wins in a blowout, then we'll know, southern whites simply don't trust blacks and have a racist bias that they don't show until they are all alone in the voting booth

Now, Charlie Crist (R) had a nice 16pt lead, now after it was reported in the media that he's gay (he publically denied it) nothing else has changed in the campaign, yet he's gone down to a 2pt lead

If, come election day, its an extremely tight race, and Davis has been doing the exact same things that got him behind 16pts, then we know how homophobic southerners are

I have a feeling thats how it will turn out

If so, I think the DNC should secretly subdivide into three groups, the Northeast/Westcoast majority of moderate to liberal Democrats that stand for the New New Coalition ideas, a smaller Midwestern section (Think Jon Tester) and a small southern democratic movement (Think Mark Pryor)

That way you can have a movement towards core Democratic ideals, but still be moderated by Midwesterns like Jon Tester and even more moderated by conservatives like Mark Pryor, all while keeping a solid majority...the Democrats move over and take the center, continuing to drop some of their liberal programs for a generation (ex: how liberals completely gave up on the gun control debate)

Neither of those things would change my mind about voting for a candidate I was already going to vote for.

It's unfortunate that you don't consider the character of the man you vote for; their character often determines what they will do in office.

He went to a party. A Playboy Party. For Football. So he likes Football. And He likes girls. So what?

And his dad saying "CRACKER"? His Dad said it, not him. Is it not possible to have different verbage that one's parents? Should he be punished for something his Dad said? And who hasn't referred to white people as Crackers? I'm white, and even I've done that.

Are you serious with this shit? He likes women and his DAD called people names. What's so offensive about going to a party with women at it? It was originally a Superbowl party if I am not mistaken.

And by the way, I think you and I have very different versions of "character" that we would want to define a politician by.

My version of bad character has more to do with out of control government spending, how a candidate feels about individual rights and upholding the constitution, and probably more to do with what their job history entails, more than the opinions of their families, or whether or not they have been to a Playboy Party.

What's next, you can't run for office if you've been to Ozzfest?

I love Ford and quite frankly what his dad says should have no relevance to him. If Ford were to use a racial slur I might change my mind.

I saw him on Real Time with Bill Maher.. he was good. Spoke a lot of common sense stuff.

I doubt I'd vote for him because he's far too socially craz..conservative for my likings, but I'm sure being against gay marriage and whatnot plays well someplace like TN.

I don't think the playboy thing is a big deal. Who cares, there were thousands of other people there.. it was a Superbowl party.
