Lynne Cheney vs Matt Lauer

I got a chickle out of this:

Matt Lauer: "Let me end on a political note here. We got the midterm elections coming up just a couple a weeks away and the President would like it to be a referendum on the economy and taxes and things like that but a lot of experts say it's gonna be a referendum on Iraq. If it boils down to that, Mrs. Cheney, are the Republicans in trouble?"

Cheney: "I think it should be a referendum on all of the above. You know I, I was watching your program earlier and you did a segment on trouble at GM. It seems to me there ought to be several segments done on the progress in the economy. The fact that unemployment is low, interest rates are low, inflation is low and the stock market is hitting all-time records. So I'll bet you'll do that tomorrow."

Last time they sparred:

Seemingly inspired by Chris Matthews, in a Tuesday Today segment with Lynne Cheney about her children's book on George Washington crossing the Delaware River, Matt Lauer referred to how Washington led "a rag-tag group, not well-fed, not well-clothed, completely under-equipped as compared to this great British army," and pivoted to Iraq: "Let me ask you to think about what is going on in Iraq today where the insurgents not well equipped, smaller in numbers, the greatest army in the world is their opposition. What's, what's the lesson?" Lauer argued that "the insurgents believe they're fighting for a cause as well. They don't believe any less than we believe." Cheney scolded him: "You're being awfully relativistic here. I mean, the insurgents are killing Iraqis by the hundreds, Iraqis by the thousands. It's not as though this is a matter between just 'on the one hand on the other hand.' We are on the side of freedom."

She's pretty snappy ain't she? Her dick has taught her well.

Wolf Blitzer: "We’ll talk about your book."

Cheney: "Right, But what is CNN doing running terrorist tape of terrorist shooting Americans? I mean, I thought Duncan Hunter asked you a very good question and you didn’t answer it. Do you want us to win?"

Blitzer: "The answer, of course, is we want the United States to win. We are Americans. There’s no doubt about it. You think we want terrorists to win?"

Cheney: "Then why are you running- Why are you running terrorist propaganda?"

Blitzer: "With all due respect- With all due respect, this is not terrorist propaganda."

Cheney: "Oh, Wolf!"

Blitzer: "This is, this is reporting the news which is what we do. We’re not partisan."

Cheney: "Where did you get the film?"

Blitzer: "We got the film- Look, this is an issue that has been widely discussed. This is an issue that we reported on extensively. We make no apologies for showing that. That was a very carefully considered decision why we did that. And I think- And I think that if you’re-"

Cheney: "Well, I think it’s shocking."

Blitzer: "-If you’re a serious journalist, you want to report the news. Sometimes the news is good, sometimes the news isn’t so good."

Cheney: "But Wolf, there’s a difference between news and terrorist propaganda. Why, why are you giving the terrorists a forum?"

She's on a rampage.

i've seen front page stories on cnn for the past few days about how stong the market is (before todays housing crap) and i can't figure out her point from her previous argument with lauer (although it was crap for him to take a childrens book about gw and go into "what about iraq")..

Wait, so I'm a hypocrite if one of my political views disagree with a politician I support? Would it make me a horrible father? Your logic is shady.

You know John Kerry wasn't very supportive of gay marriage too right. So if she was supportive of Kerry during the last campaign she'd still be a hypocrite and a horrible mother? What the fuck can she do to please you?

Kerry was for civil unions at the very least, though I vehemently disagree with any fellow Democrat who believes gay marriage should be illegal.

She can support whomever the fuck she wants, I am just calling her out on being a shitty parent for supporting an administration and RNC that is twisted around the Religious Right's finger and will never (meaning the religious right) see gays as anything REMOTELY close to equal. That means even being against civil unions, a watered down marriage contract. The fact is she is supporting discrimination against her own daughter. Thanks, mom!

If you are trying to compare the Kerry stance to the Bush stance on this issue, you are sorely mistaken.

She's supporting the party she feels is best for our nation, not just her daughter. I'm sorry if you disagree with her, but I'm sure her children don't think she's a bad parent for being a Republican. I'm not sure who you are to judge her so harshly on that criteria.

The Kossers are claiming her book had graphic sex scenes in it. But I can't seem to find it and neither can they.

Here is her book. Can you find the graphic sex scene? She does seem like she's lying in the interview. But I can't find it...

How is what she wrote trashy?

Her novel was compared to being equal to that of Webb's. Cheney denied that. You are making an argument and taking everything out of context and exaggerating what she wrote.

You are right, Webb was a serious author who wrote Best Seller endorsed by John McCain, Cheney wrote a stupid lesbian book that sold about 500 copies

There is no comparison, one is an intelligent author who writes about powerful scenes he experienced with his eyes or heard with his ears, the other is a ditz

That was a lesbian love scene...Webb was right, I'd say the writing was graphic

And there was nothing sexual about how the father handled the boy in Vietnam, its like saying any american dad who gives his son a bath is a child molestor

This is the quote all over the liberal blogosphere. It's clearly in the same league as Webb's writings. And Lynne Cheney is a liar when she says he books weren't anything like Webb's or explicit like his.
