im not a religious guy at all, but this is hardly the same as g.w. bush saying god speaks to him. it really doesnt sound any worse than most christians speaking about their faith.

I think its hilarious the people trying to seperate Obama's comments from Bush's. Denial anyone? I have no problem with people exercising their religious beliefs. If Obama or Bush talk to God and thinks that God talks back, thats between them and God.

As far as I'm concerned, he can live by his 'moral compass' as long as he isn't put in a position that lets his imaginary friends dictate my life as well. Government shouldn't be dictating morality, especially if it's being pulled from a made-up 'supernatural ether.'

This is just the kind of thing a religious whacko politician would say to justify some otherwise obviously horrendous action 'in the name of the lord.' The fewer people like this we have in power, the better.

I didn't thikn Bush speaking about it was any worse than someone talking about their faith.

He said he has conversations with God. And ANYONE that believes in, and speaks to, God does believe God speaks back. Some just differ to what degree.

Nothing he says in any of those quotes is overly radical. Definitely not something the Dems should start checking their shorts over. He basically says his faith guides him through the day when facing tough calls. There is nothing that uncommon about that is there? I think most people understand the point he is trying to convey. Also, last I heard, Obama is still just a Senator.

On the flip side….Bush says God speaks to him about war, makes no bones about his Christian views, coins the phrase “axis of evil”, repeatedly uses the word “evil” over the years in various speeches, and was re-elected with a huge push from the religious right. All of this when it’s well known that Islamic extremists feel like the west wants to wage a "holy war". There is a difference, only you don’t see it.

While I am personally non-religious, its not like all democrats or liberals hate religion.
