| I love tomatos (oes?) and vinegar! How can you not like them both? I'd die without salsa ![]() I used to hate them plain until I lived in WI and could get them from the farmers' market. Fresh fresh tomatos plain with a little salt as a side to some eggs in the morning FTW. I make my own salsa/tomato sauce/mojo marinade and I use a lot of vinegar in all of that. Maybe you just need to try something "better" like Ardent said. | ||||

| Well maybe i said it wrong! I hate tomatoes plain, i love salsa, certain kinds of tomato sauce etc I dont like tomato soup, too strong! Vinegar for pasta is fine. I hate vinegar like, going to subway and they put the oil/vinegar on your sandwich, yuck! It also dosent help that i have to drink this apple cider vinegar daily in a glass of water. Its *really* healthy though to cleanse your system/antioxidants etc! | ||||

| There are lots of natural ways to get antioxidants. Any particular benefit you're getting from this vinegar drink? I mean, if it's to cleanse your system, I know some tasty ways to do that... if it's for antioxidants, there are FAR better ways for that. Or did you just lose a bet? | ||||

| Doctor started me on daily doses of it, basically mix a few teaspoons into a glass of water, its amazing how much it helps soo many health problems, should look it up. Its like the ultimate system detox. Although its considered alternative, and im the complete opposite of a health nut, growing up with digestive track problems i have to stick by certain things or i end up in the hospital.. And i can swear by my apple cider vinegar! Its better than taking pills every day for me. Though its awful to drink | ||||

| I've had intestinal tract shit for a while. I've noticed that something as simple as daily Metamucil keeps me from having debilitating cramps. | ||||

| Can you take your vinegar in other ways? Does it have to be apple cider vinegar? I could suggest some nice dressings you could put on stuff that would be a lot more tasty. | ||||

| Oh that's tough with the stomach issues. I have celiac syndrome, which means I'm allergic to wheat/rye/oats/barley/etc. (gluten). It makes getting lunch a pain in the ass, especially where I work since it's mostly fast food and pressed sandwiches :sad2:. Balsalmic(sp?) vinegar might be better than cider. Once or twice a week I make a proscuitto/pancetta sandwich and use that for dipping. It's pretty tasty. | ||||

| Barley definitely contains gluten, at least according to the folks at the NE Journal of Medicine (check the reference here: http://www.celiac.com/celiacdisease.html). It was hard to adjust because I didn't know until I was like 19 or 20 but really I don't miss any of it now except for pizza sometimes. Whole Foods sells gluten-free pizza crusts, thin and thick, so it's not that bad. You can eat bread/porridge/beer; it just can't have gluten in it . I actually have some toast in the toaster right now waiting. It's made from rice/potato/tapioca starches instead of wheat. It has a different taste/texture until you heat it up then it's really soft and quite good. I also have bagels and hamburger buns up in my fridge NYC is a great place to be gluten-free. There's a dedicated g-f Italian place I go to from time to time that has g-f pizzas, cookies, cakes, pies, pastas, meatballs, breadsticks etc. It's inconvenient but it's not as bad as it might seem at first | ||||

| Oh, okay, so it's JUST gluten then? That's pretty specific. I coulda swore barley didn't have gluten in it, but maybe it's just a very low gluten content. The only reason I know this is because you can't use barley flour to make gluten breads, like bagnettes or however you spell that. With those you mix the hell out of your batter to maximize the gluten and the bread comes out chewy | ||||

| Ah yeah the gluten is the protein that makes everything sticky and chewy so you want to use flours with more gluten for that sort of thing. Generally you can use Xanthan Gum to replace gluten or just combine a bunch of starches. Saitan is also a no-no. | ||||

| Man, what is up with autoimmune disorders... it seems just about everyone has one in some form or another. I haven't gotten tested (mostly because if it's diagnosed, it's not like anything can be done about it), but there's one I think I might have that causes me to get mouth ulcers randomly, sometimes very bad. It's fucked up. I haven't noticed it increase with any type of food except candy bars, which I hardly ever eat... so I don't think it's an allergic reaction. But mostly I'm just too lazy to get tested When it's bad, I get pissed at myself for being lazy, but when it's not, I don't even think about it. Been happening for 14 years | ||||

| I havent had a proper diagnosis of whatever it is that i have. Every three months for like 5 years my intestines would cramp into a charlie horse and would let nothing in or out for 2-3 weeks at a time. EVERY three months on the dot. The pain is excruciating, and it lasts for 12-24 hours, sometimes 36 hours of constant pounding pain, to me its a 9 on the scale, and ive passed out twice because of it. And it would linger for weeks, but it wasnt a constant throb like the original "onset". So every three months for like 4-5 years i was going to the ER getting drugged up with morphine, anything to just have even 1 minute of relief. No one ever knew what it was, they did constant tests, thinking i was pregnant and lying, that one of my tubes burst, or an ovary twisted, or my appendix, etc, gallstones (wtf!), endomitriosis, so many things have been tested! Anyways a doctor gave me some pills that basically control the spazes and relax the muscles, and stop my intestines from producing a certain chemical, i took that for three months, and with the vinegar, eating very picky, ive been "attack" free since last june, without needing to take the pills (i keep them handy though, just in case) I still really have to watch myself, the occasional "trigger" meal one day isnt gunna make it happen, but if i eat crap food every day i know it will come back. | ||||

| I'm a big advocate of people eating better. But that doesn't mean to eat salad all the time or something, I mean stuff like, stop going to McDonald's and make your own hamburger. You can make yourself a couple hamburgers in less than 10 minutes cooking and 5 minutes additional prep time on an iron skillet that will taste better than any fast food burger and cost a fraction of the price. And actually be better for you! (not that it's necessarily GOOD for you, but it's not anywhere close to as bad as a fast food burger and fries) It sucks that the drink has ruined your taste for vinegar though | ||||
