What could've possibly caused Israel to fire at a German ship?

Israeli jets clash with German ship near Lebanon - Yahoo! News

What could've possibly caused this? Certainly the Israeli jets knew these were German warships, as Germany was assigned to take over naval operations there, and there ships are distinct military ships, not foreign ships trying to smuggle in weapons. I can think of no reason why this would happen. USS liberty deja vu?

Maybe because they're working for the United Nations that have never been sympathetic to Israel? Even at that it would still be really out of character for Israel since they'vde only goned after Hezbollah.

I'd like it to be confirmed as well.

Another story I've hear and will condemn if true is that the IDF attacked Lebanese offshore oil wells and spilled millions of gallons off the Lebanese coast. It's confusing because what would these oil wells have to do with fighting Hezbollah unless they were controlled by Hezbollah. But as far as I know, this event hasn't been confirmed yet either nor has it been confirmed that those oil rigs are controlled by Hezbollah.

The German defense minister confirmed to Reuters that "there was an incident." Not exactly flimsy.
