| Bush Guts Posse Comitatus, Grabs National Guard.. I thought this was worth reposting because it seems it has gotten no discussion in the media. I'm also guessing that most of America wont really care, especially since it probably makes sense for them that the "guy in charge" should be able to send enough troops to deal with a disaster in another state if that state doesn't have enough. What they probably wont consider is that the President is now capable of determining for himself what defines 'disaster', kind of like he now defines what the geneva conventions mean, what torture is, and which American citizens are enemy combatants. This is scary to me because it begs the question.. why consolidate all of this power in the executive if you don't plan to use it? Illegal spying on American citizens, being able to declare American citizens enemy combatants, being able to deny American citizens their due process rights, constitutional protections, being allowed to torture, interpret the language of treaty obligations, signing statements nullifying the power of Congressional intent suspension of habeus corpus, and now a major move toward martial law. Honestly, if someone told you 10 years ago that the President would be doing all of this, and capable of doing it all.. while Congress cheered on, and the American public yawned, would you have believed them? Or said they were crazy? | ||||

| The part about the posse comitatus act are off base since they President can use federal troops if Congress approves. And congress did approve in June when they passed the insurrection act.

| The president's theory was well tested during Hurricane Katrina when we took control of the infected areas with Marshall law. | ||||

| I think this is in response to Katrina where the governor wouldn't allow help and then blamed the president and federal government for it. As long as the administration gets blame for mistakes at the state level they will always play the game to cover their butt. If another Katrina happens and the governor refuses help the president can now override it and possibly help keep order by having an immediate response and not leaving the people feeling abandoned and helpless. I don't agree with this bill, but I think I can see where it came from. | ||||

| I can see some parts of it too but it now leaves the door open to call in the military as the federal government sees fit which prevents the individual states from being covered in a time of crisis or emergency. | ||||

| Anytime the government uses the words "This will make it easier to..." everyone should flinch. It's hard for them to do some things for a reason. | ||||
