I dunno, how is it that when the issue your average voter is focused in on is Iraq, that all the desparados on the right are piling onto Kerry because of a totally insignificant glitch? Could it be that you guys have to change the subject? Well, milk it for all it's worth, because it won't last more than a day or two,and it won't change the outcome of the election. People care about getting our troops out of Iraq. The bottom line is, Kerry is nowhere to be found on any ballot this year. That's more than you can say for your boy FOLEY.....What's the latest on HIM, btw? See, I can change the subject with the best of you. Since you don't want to talk about Bush......

We're talking about Foley now?

There are a million threads about Bush on this forum. There are three about Kerry. We try to stay focused on issues within individual threads and not slander random politicians that have no relation.

Issues being shifted? The only thing that is disappointing is that people are talking about this instead of real issues before they vote. This, although dumb of Kerry, really has nothing to do with anyone except for those in MA.

But he's inserting himself into other candidates' elections so he is an issue, like it or not.

retired people coming out against kerry? funny my calendar says 2006, but these lines are right out of 2004

i dont know what people want out of JK...go back in time is the only solution

He isn't and shouldn't apologize because the GOP spin machine took the video tape and ran it around the country, he didn't do that

He should admit he botched it (he did) apologize to those in the crowd or who on Oct 30th saw it and felt he was insulting the truth, but he clearly should not apologize to those who have been listening to the GOP machine's take

However, if he tried to explain it, it would just be another day on the news, and he'd be digging another hole, so he did what he could do, he just went back to DC

Imagine if you made a thread about the Foley scandal. And someone like me, you know someone who gets all his facts from Rush and Fox, starts making jokes about the intelligence of John Kerry or other non-related people. It's off topic. We tend to stick to the topic. That doesn't mean you can't slander say McCain's views who has spoken repeatedly against Kerry. But to just start randomly insulting the intelligence of random politicians isn't necessary.

You're throwing up a HELL of a lot of smoke, but there's one problem-no fire. A slight correction:What he said actually is more like,"A stupid person sent our troops into Iraq." And imo, no apology is required, if you're telling the truth. He botched his words. So what? By election day, this whole load of bs will be nil.

Kerry apologizes for 'a botched joke' - Yahoo! News

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 24 minutes ago
"Of course I'm sorry about a botched joke. You think I love botched jokes?" Kerry said during an appearance Wednesday on Don Imus' nationally syndicated radio program. "I mean, you know, it's pretty stupid."

Kerry, D-Mass., said he meant no offense to troops when he told a college audience Monday that young people might get "stuck in Iraq" if they don't study hard and do their homework.

On Wednesday, he said, "You cannot get into the military today if you do badly in school." But he also said the White House was purposely twisting his words and asserted that it is Bush who owes troops an apology for a misguided war in Iraq.

"I'm sorry that that's happened," he said of his earlier comment. "But I'm not going to stand back from the reality here, which is, they're trying to change the subject. It's their campaign of smear and fear."
I disagree and now so does John Kerry.

You can disagree all you want, but he admitted he botched the joke he was trying to make about Bush being stupid and getting us "stuck in Iraq." ..and you can assume or insinuate or guess or extrapolate whatever you want from the botched remarks, but the bottom line is that he's clarified it and that's that.

I keep listening to it and I keep hearing "if you make the most of your education you can do well and if you don't you get stuck in iraq." Sorry, was my first thought supposed to be "oh, he means bush got stuck in iraq!!!" and not "he thinks the hundreds of thousands of people in iraq are uneducated"?

And imo, no apology is required, if you're telling the truth. He botched his words. So what? By election day, this whole load of bs will be nil.
Again, even other dems think he should STFU, if for nothing else than not to fuck up their election chances. It's not "just smoke" when a guy in TN was going to have kerry come help him campaign and now he's called saying "thanks but fuck you, stay home."

It wasn't random, it was done to make a point which was evidently lost on you. The point is: It shows an almost frantic desperation on the right to change the subject by grabbing onto whatever they can, no matter how trivial. And compared to the scandal-ridden mess in DC and the misguided war in Iraq, a verbal fart on Kerry's part doesn't quite merit this kind of feeding frenzy. I was merely trying to put this "issue" in perspective, that's all.

Clarification or not, botched joke or not, Kerry made the remarks, Kerry offended many people, including our troops, and to say Bush is at fault for any of this is just as funny as the media swirl around Kerry. Only Kerry is responsible for what comes out of Kerry's mouth.

Kerry has admitted it came out wrong. It was misinterpreted. He has released what he meant to say:
“It’s great to be here with college students. I can’t overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.”
But like some here, he still blames Bush for what he did say. That last closing sentence seems highly questionable to me. Considering it's placement and the lack of the fact that John Kerry wouldn't have said it or corrected himself after the audience gasped.

Good, he should have apologized, and he's learned a valuable lesson. Now he reaps the consequences of his actions, just as we all do in every day of our lives. That's part of the lesson-learning process.
