| No it's not funny and it's even more pathetic to think people would believe he told a simple one-liner joke and forgot the clincher. From the video you can see he clearly made the joke and then ended it without any reference to Bush. I find it hard to believe he would have forgotten the clincher. It makes no sense. It's like telling a knock knock joke, and stopping after "Orange Who?" Nobody tells a joke and forgets the clincher. That's just absurd. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more backwash from this. It's clear the clincher was "you get stuck in Iraq." You can botch the clincher, but forget to tell it? To me this is just a lame attempt of a cover-up. | Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we -Bush I demand Bush apologize to every member killed by our enemies because he constantly thinks about ways to harm our country...how low...that the president thinks about ways to harm our country...how outrageous!!! I demand an apology! | ||||

But here's the reality. Kerry has now admitted that what he said wasn't taken out of context. And, he has been the one who has been calling press conferences attacking Bush and getting angry and hopping up on his high horse saying he wouldn't apologize. He's the one calling radio stations about it. You can keep blaming Bush, Foley, TN, whoever you want. But when it comes down to it, Kerry said it. He admits he said it. And he has been fanning the flames. So yes, people are talking about it. He offended many of our troops during time of war... again. And he was not apologizing for it. That's something people have to deal with and stop shifting the blame on the GOP. Kerry made the comments and Kerry held numerous press conference angrily stating he wouldn't apologize for his words. He offended people. And when you're a politician, a previous presidential candidate, a hopeful future candidate and you offend your nations military, you should say "I didn't mean it the way it came out. I'm sorry if it came off as offensive." You don't get on a Howard Dean tyraid and start screaming you won't apologize and start blaming other people. These are the effects of his childish humor and behavior. | ||||

| If I have a history of saying things racially inflammatory and I were to start of a joke dealing with stereotypes with race and don't tell the non-offending punchline I would expect to apologize for "botching" that joke. Kerry refused. And that's why he got himself into so much trouble. He got on his typical elitist high chair and preached his excellency to all the would be naysayers. He came off looking like a jackass... and rightfully so. | ||||

Especially the ones who joined guard and reserve units. They no doubt feel they've been lied to. I know some of them. My son-in-law is one. Kerry didn't send them off to a war that has no plan for victory, with no end in sight. BUSH did. Kerry isn't screwing them out of their veterans' benefits. BUSH is. If you think that my bringing Bush up in this thread is not relevant to this discussion, then you should probably redefine your narrow definition of what IS relevant.

| But see, that's where we disagree.... I *DO* think he said exactly what he meant. This is *total* speculation, but IMO I can see him having made some off-hand remark like that and his speech writing picked up on it and thought "that'd make a good Bush bash if we tweak it...a....little...like...this." Again, this is just me talking... too bad for kerry he didn't read it closely enough and said what he really thought rather than what the speech writer wrote. Kind of like the "Barney Fag" incident. In 1995, former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey bashed Frank when he referred to Frank as "Barney Fag" in a press interview. Armey apologized and claimed it was "a slip of the tongue." But Frank did not accept the "slip of the tongue" excuse, and famously responded "My mother says that in 59 years since being married to my father, no one had ever called her Elsie Fag."The guy said what he really thought and IMO so did kerry. Again (fourth time I believe) this is total conjecture. *BUT* you can't ignore that there are *MANY* people who are going to believe this same thing. | ||||

| You're right, it is total speculation, and anyone who would think that much into it and in that manner...was not going to change their vote for the 2006 eleciton If he runs in 2008, we'll resume this discussion when it has any relevance whatsoever (the standard bearer crap is such a joke, if Dukakis said botched a joke in 1990 would people have voted more GOP...and if you say 'well he's a senator' well restart your talking about kennedy drowning poor innocent women, that has more of a point than this crap) until then, he is someone who said he botched the joke, he apologizes ontop of that and went home to DC to sit out the election and is not involved with the democratic campaign That being said, we have two events: 1) Al-Sadr basically ordering around the US military via Maliki 2) The House midterm races which new polls just came out from Reuters (i believe) i imagine though we'll talk about Kerry like its 2004 ad nausem...and i would better spend my time playing tennis /thread | ||||
