i don't buy any of the sympathy of hezbollah the media is trying to do. it is their tactic to delegitimize israel's right to defend itself by creating opportunities for civilian deaths (by using them as shields). we all know if ANY american citizens were killed by ANY sort of missile attack near our borders the intruding party would be annihilated. 'sitting down for talks' would be the last thing we'd consider.

the same thing is happening with the NYT in iraq with the terrorists there. they are giving awards for this guy who took some pictures of al sadr's men (while shooting at american soldiers) and calling them 'courageous' it's pretty sick.

Just like I don't buy into any of the sympathy Israel tries to collect while it continues it's onslaught.

I dunno that I agree with that. There's a large group of Christians and Sunni's in the area that would prefer to live side by side with Israel instead of having to go through this shit brought on by the Hezbollah faction in the area.

pretty messy stuff

so far lebanon has stayed behind Hezbollah...I don't think that will change...

about al-Sadr...I mean it takes fucking balls to attack American soldiers in tanks, jets, etc with a 2 week shooting camp in how to fire an AK47, and thats about the quality of Sadr's man

now some of the former special republican guard units that are still fighting, they are probably the best troops the Americans have fought since the SS, I still remember them talking about how close Ramadi came to falling in 2004 because of them

The Shiites or whatever make up like 40% of the population, so I'd have to say that at least half the people there support Hezbollah.

Can you really see Lebanese fighting Lebanese to protect Israel? Be real here

I don't know where he's going with that. the Sunni PM has been very much behind not disarming Hezbollah, and even the Christians have shown solidarity

If there's some split I'm not seeing it

I already mentioned that Hezbollah >>> Lebanese army

so any attempt to forcefully to stop Hezbollah would be futile.

Doesn't necessarily mean he's courageous. And I don't know if I'm comfortable with an American newspaper calling him courageous.

It certainly invokes that when thinking how men so poorly trained and armed can sum up the courage to charge at vastly superior US forces

No feeling of wonder. Just pity. Well, not even enough feeling for pity. You see courageous freedom fighters... we see wasteful, unconstructive, ignorant, fanatical suicide.

Both Sadr's men and the US forces they fight possess courage and bravery. You don't fight house-to-house with machine guns and grenades if you lack that. Give "the enemy" credit where credit's due.

The Lebanese will not fight each other to keep one from fighting Israel. It will not happen.

I agree with this.

I talked to one of the people I know in Lebanon (Beirut) today asking what he and people he knows will do if Israel attempts to occupy parts of Lebanon. He said what is going on in Iraq will happen there.

His reasoning/justification?

He said: their "honor" is so precious to them (his words), and that they can't accept such a thing as Israel occupying their country

Could you imagine if we had some kind of uprising that had a following from the people and NK sent troops in to try and quell it.

Your damned right we would use our troops to keep them out.
