Go read the stories from Soldiers who directly dealt with Clinton. They hated the military and didnt even bother to hide their feelings.

And obviously Kerry loves the military. Great way of showing it too, by lying to Congress saying all the Soldiers were committing warcrimes. But then he already sold out to the NVA, so the Congressional hearing wasnt that bad in comparison.

As said before, Kerry has always had a hatred for the military. In his statement from 1972 he is against the draft AND against a Volunteer army. Well, what else is there? No army I guess.

In 1972, as he ran for the House, he was less apologetic in his comments about the merits of a volunteer army. He declared in the questionnaire that he opposed the draft but considered a volunteer army "a greater anathema."

"I am convinced a volunteer army would be an army of the poor and the black and the brown," Kerry wrote. "We must not repeat the travesty of the inequities present during Vietnam. I also fear having a professional army that views the perpetuation of war crimes as simply 'doing its job.'

"Equally as important, a volunteer army with our present constitutional crisis takes accountability away from the president and put the people further from control over military activities," he wrote.

They don't? Because by their own admission...

Bill Clinton wrote a letter explaining why he was leaving the military and running off to Europe. He says he loathed the military and wanted to continue his education. He goes on to describe why he loathes the military such as disagreeing with the draft system and persecution of draft dodgers.

Dude, Thorgrim purposley left out his complete statement for obvious reasons.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.
His words weren't misinterpreted. People were reacting to what he actually SAID. Of course it's convenient that after there is a shitstorm he tries to say he was talking about Bush (which is a stretch, but Dems will drink the coolaid like they always do). He has a history of not respecting the military and the people who serve. That was the cool thing to do in the late 60's and 70's and he seems to keep forgetting that it's not so cool anymore.

I would come in the thread to post insults to George Bush's military record but I can't seem to find a military record. Unless of course in include the national guard duty that seemed to mysteriously just end suddenly. I could come in to insult Cheney's military record, but all I can find is deferments and all of the things he did not to serve.

That being said I do not find it unreasonable that someone like Kerry goes to the slaughter house and comes home a vegetarian. It is no secret there were atrocities by our soldiers who were mentally stressed beyond any reasonable measure because of that war. He came home to report those atrocities and to protest a conflict that cost 50,000 american soldiers for nothing. These reports were intended to bring soldiers home and get them out of the slaughter house, because they were dying for nothing.

As far as Clinton's drastic negative affect on the military, I am having trouble finding it. Closing bases? You should see the list George W has going, only when he does it they call it "strategic realignment". Dont ask dont tell? don't catch the gay. Funding cuts? Not really, the budget maintained a level spending trend. So I am really kind of at a loss as to what Clinton did that was SOO dreadfully horrible to our military.

You are absolutely right. As I read past your post and took a look at how little snippets and tidbits of information are used to justify a slanted opinion stated as fact, I just shrug and decide it is time to go to a new thread or something more productive. This conversation is going no where.

Funny you say that, considering most of the Democratic party leaders have made statements against him.

Wrongo my friend.

Kerry's belated mea culpa, issued at 4:24 p.m., came after Democratic candidates in Iowa, Minnesota and Pennsylvania refused to campaign with him

Where did you get that from?

Everything I saw said Kerry cancelled his appearances (though this is kind of a petty argument).

plus I would say in this political climate, people don't care if he was right, wrong, or other.
They just want to back away from someone who said anything controversial a week before the election.

These guys canceled yesterday. Kerry decided to end all his campaigning today

Probably the first smart thing he has done this week.
