You are right

People should have to pay taxes (licences) to help other people!

God forbid people do something out of the kindness of their hearts

blame the assholes who didn't cook food properly or used spoiled food or didn't clean the kitchen/utensils correctly and *forced* licensing as a means of collecting money for inspectors to make sure those things were done right.

You don't get it. You're going to pay for it no matter what, either in the form of mental health/drug addiction treatment, or in the form of crime, disease, more law enforcement burden and generally having bums lower the quality of everyone's life around the city. It's your choice.

A report came out in the Sacramento bee news paper just several days ago, 95 thousand homeless children in the state of California alone ! Over 200 cities are comming up with get tough "no feeding policies " especially in parks, which Churches often do. All you have to do is use the search word "homeless" in google news for a real eye opener ! What is this Country comming to, if you cant feed the poor in parks, but its still legal to feed the birds ?

So it would be OK for the government to allow someone to go around handing out dog food to homeless people? Or food that was laced with poison of some kind? Hey, better than garbage, right!

I've bought food for the homeless many times; without a license to do so, and without someone forcing me!!!!

really if there was a law against feeding the homeless it would never be enforced unless someone tried to setup a soup kitchen without getting the proper permits, zoning, etc.

Perhaps in a place like SanFrancisco there might be. Over in SF there are just as many homeless people as there are pigeons. Ok not really, but there are alot of them. I guess if you are gonna be homeless SF is the place to be!

Yeah, I don't really give a shit about any moral or emo implications. I'm just astounded by the practical impact of these regs. If these people are already too fucked up to work, and they cannot be fed by charities, then what exactly do city legislators think will happen? They'll leave? They'll curl up and die? They'll say, "fuck it," buy a suit, and then get a job? In reality, these people will just start robbing, stealing and prostituting themselves, which no one wants either. Everybody is so short sighted when dealing with this stuff.

I used to work in a mental hospital and can tell you that these places are retardedly underfunded. It's like they're at the very bottom of priority list. You should see how batshit insane some of these people were that were released on a regular basis simply because there were too little resources.

If you're so gung-ho about feeding poor people why not get the license and do it right? You can hand a sandwich to anyone you want. If you want to go start making sandwiches and handing them to the masses then you're in a different business.

You do know there are laws against poisoning people.

I don't see why you need to pay a TAX to help people.

The difference is you ARE a decent individual, at least it appears so on the surface. I think you are more the exception rather than the rule.

And there are millions of decent people out there. I don't think I'm much of an exception at all, although I like to think so probably more often than I should

I know, I just thought I would say something nice. I have to throw my hat in with Spicy on this one. I believe in one form or another society will pay through tax dollars for the needs of poor people. I do not believe that society will take care of the poor on its own.
