I'm a dork and sometimes I watch Star Trek

Not the old one mind you.. the new one.

Sometimes I find myself trying to compare it to the real world. LIke the Klingons are alot like modern day islamic extremists. No fear of death, proud warrior type people, believe that dying for your cause is the highest form of valor. That sorta thing. The united federation of planets is essentially the UN, but more powerful.

The Ferengi are definately libertarians.

I love Star Trek.

I watch it every chance I get, whether it's TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, or ENT.

Only thing I don't really like doing is watching the first season or two of any of the Star Treks though. They're always horrible. The first couple seasons of TNG and DS9 were especially bad. But after a bumpy start, they always come about to produce excellent stories.

I'm a big Trek fan. Not wearing Spock ears big, but big.

I threaten my wife with a convention trip just to keep her in check sometimes. She liked DS9 and Voyager, but that would be hell for her.

I turned it TNG on last night, and my wife was like "NOoooo, this is torture, turn it off." But then she turns it to some crappy programming on MTV or VH1.

I enjoy TNG and DS9 the most, followed by TOS and VOY ... I could never get into ENT.

To me, here are how the different nations/species break down:

UFP = United Nations + United States
Klingons = most like the Vikings of the Dark Ages, but also kind of like the Islamists of today.
Romulans = Communist China
Ferengi = Libertarians verging on Anarcho-Capitalists
Breen = North Koreans
Dominion = throwback to the USSR
Borg = throwback to the USSR
Cardassians = throwback to Nazi Germany

I've seen every episode of Star Trek ever created

That's 3 TOG Seasons, 7 TNG, 7 DS9, 7 VOY, 3 ENT

27 seasons...20 episodes at least a season...540 episodes

I also own TNG and DS9 all 14 seasons, so Ive rewatched several of my favorites many times over

They are an excellent philosophical starting point for many arguments

Watch the Borg, compare their unwillingness to compromise to that of the terrorists, then watch "I, Borg" TNG

Really, its a powerful episode

Yeah, they did do the Cardassian/Bajoran thing a lot like the Nazi/Jew situation.

I watched the first season and a half of ENT and I just couldn't get into it.

DS9 and Voyager are my favorites, TNG was damn good for it's time. I have seen the 3 all the way through multiple times. TOS was good growing up and I was really into SFB and later the SFC games.

No way i'm paying paramount that much for the seasons on DVD though.

I've probably seen 90% of the original and TNG, but I never got into DS9 or "Enterprise."

I told my wife I was going to watch Battlestar Gallactica and she did the same thing, then went upstairs and watched her taped soap opera. Women.

Sheana hates Star Trek.

As much as I enjoy Trek, I prefer Babylon 5 to Star Trek ... The story is much richer and more realistic (as far as sci-fi series can be realistic).

I didn't mention Bajorans, but obviously they're like the WWII and immediate post-WWII Jews.

TNG was my favorite. We never watched it when it was on regular time but my wife and I would watch it almost every day when it was on re-runs.

I tried to watch the others after that but just didn't like them that much.

I like both Trek and Babylon 5. Babylon 5 has a much longer story arc involving the Shadows and President Clark turning earth into a fascist state and the telepath war, which is why some people don't like Babylon 5. The other main difference is that Babylon 5 was completely prepared before any kind of shooting began unlike Trek's let's just roll the dice and see what they come up with for the story of the week.
