GOP hiding fact a candidate is dead.....

The GOP apparently is so scared of losing the majority, they are ignoring the fact that one of their candidates is dead. I'm not criticizing the fact they are running her as I think she died too late to be pulled off the ballot, but the fact that the campaign is treating the ads like any other living candidate is a bit underhanded. Voters are pretty darn stupid and don't generally know much about candidates aside from what arrives in their mailboxes or happen to hear on the news, so I would bet unless this ends up a huge story, a good percentage of people voting for her won't even know she's dead since their campaign has pictures of her smiling beside her achievements.

In one electoral district in Texas, the last-minute campaign strategy has been to play down the fact that a candidate is dead.

Glenda Dawson, a Republican congresswoman in Pearland, died in September but a campaign leaflet distributed this week shows her smiling and noting her achievements for the district and did not mention her passing.

Ms Dawson is expected to win the reliably Republican district, in which case a special election will be held in a few months time. State Representative Dennis Bonnen, who is running her campaign, denied deliberately obscuring her death.

Next up Ronald Reagan will be running for President in 08! Ads can show him making great speeches and tout his record, just don't mention the fact that he is dead!!

I bet she sweeps the Goth vote.

(rimshot)

Actually, she's perfect for the Republicans. There's no one that can maintain the status quo like a dead person.

(rimshot)

As for her smiling face on the mailers; what did you expect? A picture of a skull?

(rimshot)

I can see her ads now.

"Glenda Dawson is dead... Dead tired of corruption in Washington, that is!

Vote Dawson this November. She'll provide stiff opposition to the death tax, she'll support the death penalty, and you just know that she's on the right side of the right to life debate!

Vote for Glenda,... because Glenda would have wanted it that way.

'I'm Glenda Dawson and I approved this message through a Ouiji board.' "

Certainly you can't say this is exclusive to the Republicans, as the same thing is happening here in MA. Representative Blumer died with no time to change the ballot either, but they aren't telling anyone really. I haven't even heard of it until I vistited the elections website.

Surely you aren't suggesting the Republicans are unique in this arena?

Of course not, this is the only one I've heard of this election though. Dems have run dead people and acted as if they were alive in the past and got raked over the coals for it as well. It goes both ways.
