I mean seriously, as long as he posts within the rules, who cares if you dislike his beliefs? You dislike mine and I don't care.

Exactly what "nonsense?" It's called passion. I wasn't getting into details.. I was only giving a broad overall statement... But I would be happy to do that if you can show me one thing I said that isn't true. What I said is just obvious and commonsense.

I love the conviction, let's take it out of this thread... I'd love to see some real discussion on the floor

Hi All, I have been here for a short time and thought I really should give you a little insight as to who I am.
I really think I am the senior citizen of the group as I am 51 years old, but trust me, I still ROCK! And I live in Texas.

I am a contract administrator for a general contractor, we build military housing. We just finished at NAS Corpus Christi and getting ready for a 362 unit build at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. I cant wait!

I was married very young for 17 yrs to a fool and a drunk. The only good thing I got out of that disaster and waste of life were my 2 fine boys. My oldest is a commissioned officer in the navy and my youngest a successful member of the administrative staff at an Austin based construction company.

Im a HS grad, I had a mother who believed making good gravy and getting those sheets tucked just right were far more important than an education because after all I would get married, have kids and needed to know how to take care of my family. So thats what I did.............after just a year or so I knew I had made a mistake,,, and I spent the next 16 years trying to fix it and make it better. Finally, I pulled a "cut and run".
In that time I raised my boys alone with no child support or assistance from their father. In 6 years I had to request food stamps, only for a short period, so I would be a complete hypocrit if I were anything but a Democrat.

I have always been an avid reader and a fast learner so life has taught me well. I am independent and am blessed with a great job and my own home.

Although I am a registered Democrat, I may vote either way in a local or state election becasue I vote the person and the position not the party. I have always voted Democrat in the nationals, again because of position, not party.

I dont want to write a novel here so the rest will be fast.

I didnt like Bush the first time, I like him even less now and I resent him and his party for the huge mess they have put my country in.
I strongly approve of our efforts in Afghanistan.
I strongly oppose Iraq.

I do not want amnesty for illegals immigrants unless I can get amnesty for the tax bill the IRS just sent me. I feel if employers need to use them, then they provide a legal treck to get them across the border. Illegal is Illegal.

I am not religious in any form or manner. I was raised with very strong christian folk and even thought myself one for awhile, so I do have the background and frame of reference. I do my best to live by the "Golden Rule" and my integrity means more to me than anything. I think of myself as an earth spiritualist and believe that what comes around goes around. I do believe there is something out there but I'll be damned if I know what it is.

I have always loved debate especially that of the political kind. I have been in and out of many forums and have truly enjoyed LL.

If I left anything out you will just have to pick it up along the way. I am sure there are some new posts out there for me to read and I am exhausted.

Introducing myself

Hi folks, this is my first post, and I look forward to getting to know the rest of you here. As my "handle" implies, I'm a Vietnam veteran who served as an Army Medic in '68-69. The experience shaped many of my later attitudes regarding war. I am probably one of the most anti-war guys you'll ever encounter. Sure, some wars may have been justified, but the way I see it, WW11 was the last one which was, other than going after bin Laden in Afghanistan.

I'm retired from a civil service career and worked on Aircraft as a mechanic with the Dept. of defense. I suppose I might as well admit that one reason I retired relatively young (I'm 57) was my opposition to the "gung ho" culture of war that prevailed after we invaded Iraq without any justification. I was against this unneccessary war from the beginning. I really got SICK of hearing what a "great leader" GWB was.

On politics, I guess you could say that I'm slightly left of center, and I'm also a Democrat. I differ slightly from others in my party, on different issues. For example, I favor a reinstatement of the draft. I believe that it would serve as a deterrent for future militaristic "adventures" that are not well thought out. If we had the draft today, there would be mass demonstrations just as there were during the Vietnam era, and I think we would be out of Iraq by now. We might never have won popular support for going into Iraq in the first place.

I'm for a national health care plan. To me, that's long overdue, with over 40,000,000 uninsured in this country; I think NAFTA and CAFTA have been colossal failures, and should either be repealed or radically modified; I think we need to reinforce our borders and protect this country from the invasion, as I see it, of illegal immigrants. If people can just walk across our borders at will, it's only a matter of time before the terrorists start coming as well. In fact, I'm sure a lot of terrorisats are already here, via Mexico or Canada. Especially Mexico. Beyond that reason, Anmeriican wages for the working men and women are stagnant, and the middle class is disappearing. I pretty much agree with Lou Dobbs on the issue of illegal immigration.

I wouldn't want you guys to think I'm ALL about politics.. My hobbies are playing guitar (Classic rock, blues and folk),hiking, travel ( wife and I like going to national parks, historical landmarks, Vegas, anywhere we haven't been),BBQing, and landscaping.

Anyhow, I look forward to posting here and getting to know the rest of the members here. Have a great day!
