The dems can't pass anything without help. They are the minority. Further a vote against the patriot act and the war at the time would have been political suicide, and combined with the president still having some credibility at that time you will get more support. There are things they did vote against but *gasp* wierd thing is it still passed... thats funny.

Now they have a majority and the president has zero credibility anymore, nearly ALL of his policies have failed or been poorly planned, you will finally get some checks and balances because the republican vote is simply a gimme vote when it comes to this president...regardless of right or wrong.

So, it was political suicide that Feingold voted against it? No.

That comment in bold is exactly the problem I have with the Democrats. They have NO backbone. NONE. If they had actual values, they would have stood up for what is right, irregardless if it's "political suicide."

You did not see the blow back from such a vote? All of the "soft on terror" bullshit? Don't act like there was no consequences for actually having the correct position on the issue such as Feingold. Every day there is a game of chess. They had a backbone on just about everything except terrorism and what to do about it because of the fear card republicans were more than willing to use, and it won them elections. It is not a "black and white" situation.
