There was absolutely nothing wrong with that encounter...the guy didn't comply, he kept his hands in his pockets (ok, he took one out at a time and then put them back in...whatever), he put the cop and others in the parking lot in a situation that may have been dangerous. The cop did the best thing possible. He ended the encounter without drawing a gun.

I notice through this whole thing you haven't said what you think the cop *should* have done. So?

I have several friends that are cops. They're my friends but they're still dicks.

And I have had a few "run ins" with cops for speeding. The worst encounter I've ever had was when a group of cops pulled me over for "running a red light" when it was yellow and they had me pulled over for an hour and half. They wrote me a ticket for running the light, searched my vehicle and myself for drugs, and then gave me a arraignment court date I had to attend because I had forgotten to wear my glasses. I don't have horrible eyesight, but these were cops that were dicks and wanted to write me up for anything.



I'm not a law enforcement officer, so I don't know what he *should have done. I only know that based on watching that video, it seemed to me that the cop was using force that he didn't need to.

How about calling the cops because someone was threatening me in/out of school, only to find out that this person's family is friendly with the local gestapo, so I'm suddenly the one told to stop harrassing THEM?

Much more recently: How about being pulled over an avg of FOUR times a month for a whole summer by the same cop and made to sit on the side of the road for 30 minutes while he ran my info and tried to find something wrong with me or my vehicle? I was never ticketed once (clean record), but since (apparently) no record was made of the stops, my complaints fell on deaf ears.

How about asking for help from a nearby cop due to car troubles and he complains right to my face that my 'issues' are causing HIM to do extra paperwork that night? Then he starts calling me names...wonderful, and my taxes pay his salary.

I live in a sleepy, ritzy town with almost zero crime. They do nothing but drive around in their sports cars/H2s and waste taxpayer dollars harassing harmless teenagers and 5-over speeders. Of course, this just raises the kids' ire and induces the disrespect the cops are looking for so they can continue bullying. Most of these cops were the idiot football players in my hs class who bullied constantly.. now they get badges and guns to bully people around with..just great. I can't imagine the situation's any better in towns with harder crime, so no wonder many people distrust cops by default. It seems like every time society gives someone a pretty uniform, a badge, and a bit of authority, he thinks that this gives him permission to manhandle people at the slightest provocation. I'm not saying all cops/depts are like this but, hey, this is what I got, multiple times, for ignoring the stereotype and actually trusting that these guys would help.

If that officer truely thought that punk was a threat to his safety, he should've just warned, then tazered him. There was no need to crush his larynx and then manhandle him to the ground like that. Using jackie chan moves on people's necks is a surefire way to CAUSE an injury, not prevent one. Doing that put BOTH lives at risk because if that kid was even remotely sober and/or fired up, he could've easily dodged that move and retaliated. From what it looked like, that kid was stoned off his rocker and completely harmless. Too bad we can't see the full footage.

When I went to court, the judge and the DA both said that it was a ridiculous law and threw the case out. So, even those in the system thought it was retarded and the cop was a dick.

And I wasn't pulled over for not driving with glasses. I was pulled over for running a red light - which I didn't.

And the cops did an illegal drug search of my vehicle. The whole thing was fucked up.
