Mark Steyn offers this sobering and sad essay on the future of Anglo-American dominance throughout the world. Dependence Day. It's a rather long essay, but well worth the read. And what is going on in the US, and Eorope, regarding the Welfare State, is going to be the cause of the failure of this great tradition. So sad too.

Even though the U.S. and the U.K. are falling apart, I still think English will be the international language. There are more countries that use our alphabet out there, than there are that use the Chinese' symbols and since English is the standard right now, theres no sense in changing to german or french etc.
Also business wise, it just wouldn't be practical for the chinese to expect every one to learn chinese in order to do business with them. The succesful businessman caters to his/her consumers.

I think this thread's title is the best way to describe much of the frustration coming from the Tea Party's of America. Politics is the microphone but the rallying cry, from a largely middle aged white crowd, is clear.
