Sure I could turn off my TV but that would require personal responsibility on my part...I want someone else to take responsibility and get all the ads off all the channels instead.

For nearly two hours on Election Day 2002, hundreds of hang-up calls overwhelmed Democratic get-out-the-vote phone banks in New Hampshire and a ride-to-the-polls line run by Manchester's firefighters union.
Nothing similar. These calls are giving information about the democratic candidate and why not to vote for him/her.

It's all about voter suppression.. the phone calls being made now are against law. Regulation requires they state who is paying for the call and who is calling at the start of it

They aren't doing that because this tactic allows them to harass and frustrate their opponents base into not voting. Sucks that it works, but it works, and it's illegal.

Just because they're not exactly the same doesn't mean it's not just as bad. I'd say this one is technically worse because it's harassing voters themselves rather than phone banks.. this one is all about keeping people from wanting to vote, the Tobin incident was about preventing the Democratic establishment from helping people who wanted to vote get to the polls.

It has everything to do with it. It's a slightly different tactic with the same goal in mind.

No. Jamming the "get out the vote" center for 2hrs by repeatedly calling them every 5 seconds is completely different than calling an individual's home 2-4 times/day.

It does? Is that state or federal law?

Sorry, it's a different tactic with the same goal in mind. I'd like to see your evidence of "2-4 times/day". Just because you have recieved a similar call doesn't mean it's part of this multi-district effort or the same things.

The reports are that this thing continues to call people over and over continuously, through all hours of the night, and doesn't stop. If someone hangs up, it immediately calls them back, and so on and so forth.

Also, again, you're leaving out the other types of calls telling people they'll be arrested, have criminal charges filed against them, telling them their voting location has changed, etc..

It's all part of the same sphere of events with one goal: Preventing Democratic voters from voting.

Look at the Webb campaign website if you want evidence. There are news stories in almost every major outlet today and last evening on television about it

Thanks. After reading the story....

Not found.

Again, not found

What I did find was...

Angela Elliott, a Fairfax Circle resident who is registered as an independent and has been getting more Democratic calls than Republican ones.
lexandria section of Fairfax County, said he has been getting an average of three to five automated calls per day from both Democrats and Republicans.
Federal Communications Commission guidelines saying the originators of automated calls must identify themselves at the beginning of each call....

..the requirement does not apply to political nonprofit organizations

That's one article, because you wanted a source and I was reading it at the time.

There's plenty others, and hundreds of reports of the robo calls in districts in VA and other races of near continuous calls.

And, just because that article doesn't mention it doesn't mean it's not happening. Again, look on the Webb campaign website if you want proof.

The "Democratic calls" he's getting are really Republican calls masquerading as information about a Democratic candidate designed to annoy the voter into not voting.. that's the whole point, read the thread, it's been pointed out.

The Democrats do have their own get out the vote machine with calls, but it's nothing like what's going on right now on the Republican side.

Oh, OK... so show me a complaint from ANY individual who says s/he got so many calls s/he couldn't make a call.

The reports are that this thing continues to call people over and over continuously, through all hours of the night, and doesn't stop. If someone hangs up, it immediately calls them back, and so on and so forth.
Show me. I've seen people complain because they're on the no-call list and still got calls, and complain about getting calls early in the morning and late in the evening, but I haven't seen any complaints that say they got so many calls they couldn't make a call.

Other than them both using a phone, these are completely different.

Just because it's not calling 24 hours a day doesn't mean it doesn't have the same intended effect of suppressing the vote.

Again, the goal is what's important -- suppression of the vote, not the method. It's wrong no matter how it's done.

Sounds like the goal to me is to give a message and say, these are the reasons you shouldn't be voting democrat.
