| 57+ Lebanese civilians killed, including 37 children by Israel;Lebanon stops US-talks QANA, Lebanon - An Israeli airstrike Sunday killed at least 50 people — more than half children — in a southern Lebanese village, the deadliest attack in 19 days of fighting. [US Supported] Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr questioned Israel's claim that Hezbollah fired rockets from the village. "What do you expect Israel to say? Will it say that it killed 40 children and women?" he told Al-Jazeera television. ![]() There is one dead little girl out of 36 others http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060730/...N5bnN1YmNhdA-- The US is claiming it called for a postponement, but the US-backed PM from the cedar revolution said no talks with Rice or the US would ever happen until there is a ceasefire after today's events The Lebanese people are now fed up with Israel and the US, they now are estimating over 600 Lebanese civilians have been killed, this is compared with the death of 19 Israeli "civilians" I think we can officially call this a complete disaster for the US and Israeli, and we are nearing a complete victory for terrorists in this battle Last edited by Thorgrim; 07-30-2006 at 09:25 AM.. | ||||

| Because we had the same level of technology and accuracy with our missiles and munitions in WW2 that we and Israel have today? Because the fact that people die in war means it's justified? That it shouldn't be avoided when possible? That it should not be decried? Give me a break. These people who are continuing to die have no means of 'escape' from the towns. There is a lack of fuel. Israel has bombed the gas stations. There is a lack of roads. Israel has bombed the highways, the biways, the bridges, and almost every means of transportation. There is a lack of cars. Israel has destroyed many of them with their shelling and bombs. What ones are left people are afraid to use because Israel has bombed convoys of civilian cars leaving the area. There is a lack of mass transportation. What hasn't been destroyed by Israeli bombing has already left. What busses remain aren't being used because, guess what, it's a shocker... Israel has bombed busses leaving the area that are full of civilians. These people can't help their situation. They're not rich. There's no escape for them. So what do they do? The hole up in an apartment building, in the basement, and try to avoid the shelling.. and now this. This is as much the US's fault as it is Israel's. We are one of three countries in the world who have let atrocities like this continue to happen instead of calling for a ceasefire and getting an international force in there as soon as possible. | ||||

| it doesn't matter. war is war, no matter the technology at hand. people die, including civilians. our technology today means that less civlians die, but it doesn't eliminate them as potential victimes. | ||||

| Really? That's why you see people protesting at the UN consulat in Beirut? Because they don't want a ceasefire? And it does matter. You just happen to have been lucky enough to have been born in a place where you don't have to deal with shit that's going on now. Must feel good to be able to sit there and say "oh well, people die" when it's nobody you know, nobody you care about, etc.. I'm sure that would change quickly if it were true. I wonder how angry you were at 9/11 when all of those civilians were killed. I'm sure somehow those same standards don't apply and those deaths weren't justified, right? The same way that the deaths of innocent Israeli's isn't justified, right? | ||||

| The US doesn't really want a ceasefire. We're only saying it now because public opinion is starting to shift.. the reality is we're not doing all that we could be doing (or could have done) to get a ceasefire in place and an international force in there as quickly as possible. | ||||

secondly, i am VERY lucky to have been born where i was, and so were you. i'm thankful for that every day. thirdly, i in no way (nor are others as i see it) using the deaths if innocent israelis in this war as propaganda like everyone is using the deaths of innocent lebanese. fourthly, we did what we needed to do to avenge the deaths of 9/11 (and i was very angry), and i have no problem with israel doing the same. we took innocent lives while doing so (yes, it's a sad symptom of war) and it's not surprising israel is doing the same. that's the reality of things. i'm not going to let my emotions get in the way of common sense. | ||||

| It shouldn't matter, there are lives at stake on both sides and getting an international force in there (preferably from NATO, the UN seems impotent) would help things tremendously Stuff like what happened today only makes it harder for that peace to be obtained because there must be 'revenge' enacted for the deaths. | ||||
