Not if they've become legal properly.

A massive amnesty to cover the more than 10 million illegals here will only encourage other illegals to come over by the masses, as they see they'll be given amnesty no matter what. That doesn't seem pleasant to me. We have proper means for immigrants to become legal for a reason; because we've determined a set number of immigrants that our country can absorb without becoming a detriment. That is what needs to be enforced. This is essentially an open-border policy, and that's what I have a problem with.

You do realize that the amnesty bill doesn't just makes everyone legal, right?

Our borders need to be enforced, but good luck rounding up 14 million people are sending them home. Do you have any idea how much that would cost? At least under this system we are offering a chance for citizenship to people that have made the US their home and have proven to be workers.

Jesus. I hope not. And I'm not even going to say I hope they do so they are sure the Dems are sure to lose in 2008. This would be a bad thing for the country....

We were just hoping the Republicans in the House would save the day. The Republicans in office in the White House and the Senate suck booty.

If Dems take office and things go bad, it's sure to be blamed on the Dems. Many Republicans are suggesting that they want the Dems to win this election for that exact reason. That's the game of politics. I believe that will happen too, despite the reality of the situation.

I think things are pretty bad right now and we are already on a downward spiral.

I think he's right though. If things don't improve freatly in the next couple years, Democrats will be the ones who will recieve the blame from the GOP smear machine.

Are there any estimates on how much it would cost the government and states for the majority of illegals to earn citizenship (that have been here for so many years)? They'd have to pay backtaxes and all that jazz. Would the burden on social programs outweight the influx of new tax revenue?
