| Why does China get a free pass on emissions???? Why on earth do countries like China get a free pass on emissions while everyone pounds the US about emissions. We're the most productive economy on the planet on a per capita basis and we've made huge strides in reducing net pollution, so while we may emit a lot of pollution we clean up MUCH of it and are a net consumer of CO2 thanks to new technologies over the past 10 years. China and India get a free pass? They're rapidly growing, their net pollution is already in excess of ours while their gross pollution is quite as high as ours. I just do not get it...its blatant attacks to bring the US economy to its knees IMO. | ||||

| We are better than they are. We create the new direction, take the lead, and the world follows. Being emission friendly doesn't always hurt the economy either. It creates plenty of new jobs in states like mine and Iowa. It spurs new and efficient things ahead of their time in a proactive manner, something the free market is typically not capable of doing since it is more reactive than proactive. | ||||

It shows we are better as a country in taking a proactive approach to our environment in effort to take better care of the only planet we have to live on for now.
If we leave issues on the table like Darfur, issues like the environment, issues like being completely wrong and screwing up iraq, issues like Katrina, etc, all of the talk about how great this country is only going to remain sunshine up our own asses. It holds no water. This country is only as good as the actions it performs. A company is in competition with other companys to be the best, we should be in competition with other countries to be the best. It starts by not invading and imposing a democracy on a country via shitty/wrong intelligence, being proactive on things like the environment, and preventing genocide in places like darfur. Other countries will see this, we can talk to other countries and get them on board, and it ends up a better place for everyone over time.

| ^ so we *should* get involved in Darfur because of the genocide, but we should *not* get involved in iraq? sure there was shitty intelligence...for the sake of this argument I'll concede there was no WMD...but there was still saddam's attempt to wipe out the kurds and reports that he's killed in the hundreds of thousands...... so go to Darfur, but don't go to Iraq? | ||||

It's the same socialist mentality I see here every so often..."You have more so you should be required to give more." What I'm saying is if we decide to, great. But we shouldn't do anything because of pressure from someone else.

Darfur is today, right now, and we have no geopolitical interests to look out for. That is probably why there is little being done about it actually. In darfur we actually have a genocide right infront of our face, not "reports of possible" 25 years ago while we were giving him guns and money.

| Right, saddam was 25 years ago and he's getting his now. Darfur started in 2003...they've got 22 years before the "US-World police" get involved. | ||||
