Well, if people can "support the troops but not the mission", not support the mission but not the Pres?

As long as you have some justification for a position, you can take any position you choose really.

So if there's absolutely no justification for a point of view, it's invalid?

And isn't that highly subjective?

I mean if I just took a position that the moon was made of green cheese and I had no justification for it.. I could still have that position, but no one would take me seriously.

IMO Bush is almost totally irrelevant in the matter of Iraq except in that the connection matters to others

Frums recent comments about the point of speech writing serve to illustrate my point

I would say yes. Because I think I might fall into this line of thinking. We are there now, we made a pretty decent mess there, and I think we need to clean it up. About the troop actions part of this though, I disagree with how the Secretary of Defense has run this show and I believe that they have wasted resources and put our soldiers in really chitty positions. But, I feel like I can pick and choose the actions that I agree with, can't I?

Well, I don't see a reason why you can't. We all have our interests and point of view. But pretty much everything depends on ones' point of view.

I think out of logic's sake that if you dislike Bush, it's mostly because you dislike how he fucked up Iraq and the war on terror. You could also hate Bush because of anything else he has done as well...but Iraq would be the big one.

Actually I started having a dislike for President Bush when he first ran, not because of Iraq. It was when the story of him going AWOL that started me disliking him, but now I've since found out he never went AWOL, there are no military records to back it up. Then came his stance on abortion and his faith based programs, his stance on stem cell research, his signing into law the USA Patriot Act, his stance on Amnesty for illegal immigrants regardless of how much the American people didn't support it, and we still haven't gotten Osama Bin-Laden yet, the whole entire reason we went into the War on Terror thing but he instead went changend gears and went into Iraq, which should've waitged until after we gotten Bin-Forgotten, and so on. I feel he shoulld've stayed the course and went after Bin-Forgotten before he went into Iraq. He would've had far more support instead of having to use cowboy diplomacy or brow beating the United Nations into submissions with the threat of ending membership in the United Nations if he didn't get the support he demanded.

I strongly believe there is a lot of good happening in Iraq, but of course people can't see it when all they hear from the media is this firefight broke out and x amount of people died. One of the things President Bush did say when the main military campaign was over was the next phase would be the rebuilding and the mopping up the remnants of Saddam Loyalists, which would take years. It's the "insurgents" that are causing the trouble, and most Iraqis don't support them and some even fight back.

To me character is an important issue. I can't stand voting for people I feel I can't respect, and that was with both Al Gore and President Bush. It makes me feel like my vote is useless because these people will not lead America into prosperity but into piss-poor situations.

I would've preferred Bob Dole because he seems like he would've handled the Iraq situation as well as this war on terror situation with a much cooler head than President Bush. I respect Bob Dole because he's a WW II Veteran who lost the use of his arm. I had some respect for President Bush, but he's done too much. He cnas't be counted a Republican because he does not support Republican/conservativ e ideals, such as low spending. He's spent far more than any Democrat ever has. His policies have also alienated most Republicans/conservatives as well.

I do not like President Bush nor do I respect him, but I do strongly believe that there is a lot of good happening in Iraq that the media just won't report, and I strongly believe taking Saddam Husein out is a good thing.

Here's what I mean. Let's say one candidate keeps on criticising homosexuals in a very negative almost Phelpsian kind of way. I wouldn't vote foir him normall under that situation, but at least I know where he stood. Then it comes out he's a homosexual himself. Would you vote for such a candidate regardless of the party affiliation? I couldn't because I can not respect such a person. Why I can't stand John Kerry.
