What's strange is going home to IL to visit and walking through the grocery store there and seeing Vodka, Gin, Whiskey, etc on the selves Not that it's wrong, just strange.
I heard NH is like the redneck state of new england. True?

i never understood why mass would want to keep these blue laws, and found it humorously ironic, given the kennedy's call it home. laws still exist against happy-hours, as well, do they not?

drballz, who were these people you spoke with, and did you follow up their response to selling beer with 'so what'? i don't understand what is so frightening about beer sales in grocery stores.

another thing i always hated about boston was that bars couldn't stay open past 2:30am (or was it 2am), and even earlier in cambridge. this is peculiar for a major metropolitan area. one did get used to after a while, but for visitors and newcomers, it was something unexpected.

No happy hours, no alcohol 'specials', no discount prices, no two-for-ones

drballz, who were these people you spoke with, and did you follow up their response to selling beer with 'so what'?
This was the argument with the people in the papers, etc. General arguments; most people I spoke with were for it. I was sure it would pass, thinking liquor stores were the main people against it.

Most of the time last call is about 1 AM, on the weekends. I think it's earlier during the week. It royally sucks.

GA has blue laws too... it's so stupid. The dumbest part is you can't buy a 6 pack of beer from the store, but you can buy a beer from a restaurant (ie. pay the amount you would for the 6 for just the one).

In South Carolina (where I'm ACTUALLY from) you can't buy ANYTHING labelled as "non-essential" before 1PM on Sundays. You can't buy clothes, you can't buy a ice chest before heading to the beach, nothing... the only shit you can get is essential foods (labelled essential because kids may need them before 1PM if their parents are bad christians and run out on sunday morning).

It's fucking retarded.

OK I am in total shock about all of this.

I didn't know any of this about the other states.

AZ doesn't have any of these kinds of laws do they?

We complain here in Cali because they stop selling alcohol at 2 a.m. and don't start again until 6 a.m.

You can buy wine at WAL MART. AND TARGET. Pshhhhhhh....

What's wrong with these people?

I can see if it's a personal thing to not want to buy it, but to apply that belief to everyone else is just f*cking retarded.

It's a nice place in most respects. They have a collection of the best universities in the country and the medical community is very large there. They have some of the best doctors and hospitals there. Boston has a pretty low crime rate compared to most other major cities.

hard liquor/wine in state liquor stores but no beer

you will not find anyone complaining about how NH does it, though...the bottle of tequila that sells for ~$24 in Mass is $18 in NH. Nearly all other liquor prices undercut Mass.

another reason i had thought these laws would not hold. the liquor stores anywhere near the borders must lose so much business.
