Send the kid with her. She came here illegally, never owned a home to pay property tax to fund the public school their child is attending.

Assuming the kid was born in the US that would require changing the constitution. Good luck with that.

What if he screwed up the paper work and she's actually here legally? You are really going to trust a local town cop with all that power?

The police come and pick them up and verify they are illegal or not. If they are, put them in holding until there is a bus full and send them back.

If employers get applications from people that can't prove their citizenship they can turn them in to the authorities, and rinse and repeat. Hell, give them some motivation like $1000 tax credit for every illegal that results in deportation.

what is that? Is that really a defense of this amnesty program? What is more frightening is you are taking a side with George Bush
Aren't there constitutional problems with anyone but the feds handling immigration issues? I don't think state police have the power to do anything you're describing.

Ok so have the police pick them up and hold them until the feds get there and verify it. That way the "local town clown" doesn't have all that power.

At the moment I think they must actually commit a crime. This is true even when a police officer can identify and illegal gang felon who was deported and returns to the United States. They must sit by and wait for the next victim. Did anyone even read the crime stats for Los Angles and San Diego in my article post?

--A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations. It commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico.

--Immigration and Customs Enforcement conservatively puts the number of illegals in Mara Salvatrucha as a “majority;” police officers, by contrast, assert that the gang is overwhelmingly illegal.

--Law enforcement officials estimate that 20% of gang members in San Diego County are illegal, according to the Union-Tribune.

-- The L.A. County Sheriff reported in 2000 that 23% of inmates in county jails were deportable, according to the New York Times.

--The leadership of the Columbia Lil’ Cycos gang, which uses murder and racketeering to control the drug market around Los Angeles’s MacArthur Park, was about 60 percent illegal in 2002. Francisco Martinez, a Mexican Mafia member and an illegal alien, controlled the gang from prison, while serving time for felonious reentry following deportation.

-- In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide in the first half of 2004 (which totaled 1,200 to 1,500) targeted illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) were for illegal aliens.

--The Los Angeles Police Department arrests about 2500 criminally-convicted deportees annually, reports the Los Angeles Times.

From our friends over at hotair:

Kyl and DeMint both voted against the Senate immigration bill that passed in June. You know who didn’t, and whose vote on this issue is going to be watched very, very closely?

I suspect we will end up with very moderate Republican views on Immigration in the Presidential race in 2008 that wont be far from the Democrat candidates.

Wrong! Hillary or the threat of someone even farther left will get out the base!

It worked for Arnold in Blue State of Culifornia this very election. Did you see that landslide against the dope your party ran? And the Liberals all said he was TOAST after he lost his special ballot initiative election one year ago!

Please, Ahnuld turned into such a RINO its not even funny, i can perfectly understand why people turned to him after such a bitter primary between two democrats...hell even I was pissed at them, on election day I would have had to hold my nose to vote D for governor...AND THATS ME

it wasn't liberals btw, it was everyone

Al Gore and Hillary Clinton are you only hopes of getting a "big base" turnout, otherwise you'll get the same turnout you did in 2004 that you almost lost if 60,000 votes were changed...and in 2008 the indepedent vote will be far more in our favor if we play our cards right, which all signs are pointing to...

And the big anti-Hillary vote are the same people who turned out to see Clinton get 49.something% of the vote in 1996.

Add that, plus single women coming out in droves...you guys are SERIOUSLY underestimating Hillary

Although I would prefer Clark/Richardson as the ticket
