| Judge isn't racist Montana's Chief Federal Judge Richard Cebull claims to not be racist but he does admit forwarding a racist E-mail to his buddies from his official court account. He feels it is a private matter, I suppose like standing around in the Country Club joking about wetbacks and jungle bunnies, not meant to be aired in public. Source: Great Falls Tribune | ||||

| Racist jokes seem to be most funny to those who are not the target of the joke. Google the judge and see what you think. I do however note the Judge in 'explaining' his forwarding the E-mail claims it was meant to 'stay private' which means he knew it was inappropriate at the very least. That he is the Chief Federal Judge in Montana it might show him less than even handed when hearing cases, and he addresses that by claiming he has never let race enter the decision. Kind of like a Judge down here who claimed if Obama becomes President it will be 'payback time' for the whites. That kind of talk suggests there is good cause for some sort of reckoning. But if asked I'm sure he thinks he is not a racist. Now he may not overtly let race enter the decision. But he does appear to let hate affect his judgement. | ||||

They all made race jokes. They were in good fun and a joke. They were funny. There's a difference between that and neo-Nazism

| Is your right, but your examples are flawed. None of those you cite as telling racists jokes have a day job of Federal Judge. | ||||

| Race jokes are either appropriate or not appropriate. The employment of the joking party is immaterial; it is the content of what is said and the purpose of why it is said that is material. Thus if it is inappropriate for X to tell a racist joke, it is likewise inappropriate for Y to tell a racist joke. Merely because X is a plumber or banker or judge and Y is a comedian doesn't change the content of the joke. What if X moonlights at the local comedy club? Does then make it okay? If not, why not? Why are you trying to treat people differently? Aren't progressives for "equality?" | ||||

| The joke is either/or, I agree. But the occupation of those who distribute the joke, which the Judge does admit is inappropriate, does matter. It is called exercising good judgement. | ||||

| It doesn't make the judge a racist. That said, it could certainly make him look racist. Odds are that since he is a judge, he is probably racist and probably sexist. | ||||

| No, the fact that he is white and male makes him racist and sexist. If he were a female or minority or both, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Then again if he didn't send the email from his government computer, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation either. Then again, if people would just lighten up and laugh at stupid shit like this like I laugh at Tosh or Chris Rock when they make jokes about everybody (white people included) we probably wouldn't be talking about this either. | ||||

| Odd that since he is a BushII appointee, he probably is a racist and sexist... ![]() I'm glad to see so much understanding in not rushing to judge this Judge. wonder if it will be in evidence if a 'liberal' makes a racist remark. The term racist is interesting. Just how high is the bias/bigotry bar to be labelled a racist? When it comes to being a racist or just looking like one most would say if this was routine enough to be done on his official system then one wonders what is said or done in private. The old where there is smoke there is fire thing. Then again maybe the- if it looks like a duck, fits a bit better. But for me the sobering thought is if a man who has supposedly devoted his life to sober, reflective thought in judging cases that can have a grave effect on citizens is so anti our President he does this bonehead move... Might be he missed his calling, or a few anger management classes. I bet he has sent a few folks to them, he must know the way... | ||||

Oh I agree it was bad judgment for the judge to repeat the joke by forwarding it on his work computer, because any moron knows how it will play out if discovered by an uptight society unable to lighten up and laugh at itself rather than be offended by everything. And for the record, I think jokes about white people are hysterical if they are in fact hysterical. Examples: And the absolute King as of late:

| I am wondering how a "White Entertainment Television" channel would go over. I mean some would argue that "WET" is every other channel but BET... but I'd like to see one called White Entertainment like there is Black Entertainment.. just to see the reaction. | ||||

| Again the strike zone is being expanded. This isn't about people who make their living skating on the rough edges of our society with humor. Dragging comics and who gets to say the 'N' word into this is deflection, and so typical. I don't think many people would say it is OK for Barak Obama or Colin Powell to say the 'N' word at a Formal dinner or texting the posse... Now if the Judge steps down and starts a new career as a comic and wants to do edgy or anti-Obama material I'd say have at it! | ||||

| ^So I guess we won't be seeing Barry or Big-C pushing the envelope at the White House Correspondents Dinner ever again, huh? Or Colbert or anyone else. The point here isn't that people are angry that the man sent the email while at work or that he's a judge; they are angry because he sent the content of the email itself. There's difference. | ||||

| Sounds to me like he's a moron for not covering his tracks better. Whether he's a racist or not, I'd say look at his judicial record and see how it stands against minorities. Then again, he is a judge in Montana. | ||||
