Why would Iran want to Nuke Israel?

It's not really a loaded question. After reading endless analysis on the subject over the past few years, what I can't seem to find beyond a seldom few scholars' pieces is a good reason for Iran wanting to nuke Israel?

Islam's goal is to take back Jerusalem and restore their holy temple, correct? If they nuked Israel, wouldn't that site (amongst countless others) be annilated? Wouldn't nuking Israel make the land uninhabitable for decades? Wouldn't nuking Israel jeopardize the entire region, most importantly the Gaza Strip and entire Palestinian population?

I don't think they want to nuke Isreal. There are a couple of concerns with Iran having the bomb. The most important reason is that they train, fund, and equip terrorist groups. I am not worried about Iran sending a ballistic missle anywhere. I AM worried about them giving a nuke to some group like Hamas, Hezbulla or Al Queda. That creates some problems. Because the attack is carried out by proxy, we can no longer determine the source of the attack. With conventional war we can see where the missle came from and retaliate immediately. The concept of M.A.D. works fairly well. By giving a nuke to some other group, we can't just react immediately if a nuke goes off in a major city. Who do we attack? We have no defense against this. All the nukes and missile defense shields in the world won't help.

They don't want to nuke Israel. They don't want Israel to exist. Subtle but tangible difference. They don't think Israel should exist as a country, given to the Jews by the rest of the world.

Mutually assured destruction works just fine with everyone else. It should work with them. That said, the biggest problem with nukes is a terror group getting a hold of one. It will happen one day...either they make their own or get one from somewhere else.

All anybody needs is the weapons grade material. Everything else is within a physics students capability.

The material is what is key.

A terror group can't make their own. They need someone like Iran who has the infrastructure to make it for them. At least the fissile material.

Which is exactly why we are not pleased that a country who not so secretly supports terror groups is currently enriching uranium beyond what is required for civilian use.

They are an issue as well but not to the same extent. They sort of turn the other cheek when terrorist groups operate there. Iran is like sitting down to dinner with them, writing them checks, training them, giving them weapons, etc.

I'm not saying they are perfect but they aren't Iran. Pakistan at least pretends to try and work with us. Iran spits in our face and kicks out international inspectors , etc.

Iran WAS working with us, sending captured al-Queera and Taliwacker fighters back to us when we invaded Afghanistan.

Then came the Axis of E-Vile speech.

The idea any nation would arm a terrorist group with a nuclear weapon is bizarre. Conventional weapons work just fine and keeps the international outrage to a bare simmer.

FYI- it is the goal of Jews and Evangelical Christians to remove the Muslim Dome of the Rock Mosque and rebuilt the Temple in Jerusalem, not the other way 'round. So the chances of a minority Shia state nuking one of Islam's holiest sites thinking they would exist 5 working days after that are slim to none.

You assume people care about the Palestinians. Nobody in the Arab world gives a shit about them aside from the fact that they are a tool to use against Israel. They don't want Jerusalem either. They just want to kill the jews. Iran would also provide a small dirty device to a terrorist cell it currently funds anyways and let them use it against Israel to distance itself from blame. Iran would use nukeyouler weapons as a status symbol and eventually as a deterrent once they have a successful long range missile to deliver it. Of course by then the US will have a badass laser missile defense system in place like the one from the movie Spies Like Us only better.
