Let's discuss Obama and Spending

I came across this gem today.

Obama spending binge never happened - Rex Nutting - MarketWatch

But it didn’t happen. Although there was a big stimulus bill under Obama, federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s.

Even hapless Herbert Hoover managed to increase spending more than Obama has.

This just doesn't jive with the rhetoric I continually hear from certain people here and on the street.

Well, that doesn't "jive" with the 5 trillion dollars of debt in 3 years. I think this reprt is done from a unique perspective.

I've learned that those highly creative gifs are the reason why the lie about Obama's spending are so prevalent. You can use those if you like...I'll go with facts.

And BTW, no matter what you want to do...even give Obama 09 completely, he's still less than Bush, Bush I and Reagan.

The National Debt stood at $10.626 trillion the day Mr. Obama was inaugurated. The Bureau of Public Debt reported today that the National Debt had hit an all time high of $13.665 trillion.

The Debt increased $4.9 trillion during President Bush's two terms. The Administration has projected the National Debt will soar in Mr. Obama's fourth year in office to nearly $16.5-trillion in 2012. That's more than 100 percent of the value of the nation's economy and $5.9-trillion above what it was his first day on the job.

Mr. Obama frequently lays blame for soaring federal deficits on his predecessor.

National Debt Up $3 Trillion on Obama's Watch - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Obama and Congressional Democrats were so mad about the FY 2009 budget that they cut the it right?

oh wait that isn't what happened, the dems passed and signed the omnibus and stimulus bill

Only because the last year Bush was in office was TARP, if you remove that then the percentages change drastically.

As I have pointed out in the past, Democrats want to use that emergency as the baseline for how much government should spend.

It's even more complicated than that. Who was not voting against the spending while a member of congress?

Except you're not allowed to just pick and choose what to take out. One is still less than the others...that one is Obama.

Apparently so do Republicans....at an even greater rate.

I'm not claiming he's a miser. I am just trying to dispel the lie that he's so awful...so much worse than Bush or Reagan...fact is he's not.

I'm a little confused at the metric here. Bush came in and spent a record amount of money, then Obama comes in and beats that. But because the rate of increase wasn't as high that's fine? Donkey, if your goal is to say Obama was better than Bush you are wasting your time. That is such a low bar it's ridiculous to argue about.

No, goal is to dispel the myth that Obama is the worst ever. Please read the thread before attacking Donkey. He's better than Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, etc. He's been better than the last 3 Republican presidents. (at least) Yet the rhetoric is that he is the biggest spender ever and the sky is falling.

Didn't say EVERYTHING he said was a fact. The main point still stands...no matter how strong your deflectors are.

no it does not, it has been repeatedly repuked.

The real main point is that the House is doing the doing the country a favor and slowing down Obama and his desire to be a big spending liberal.

No, it hasn't at all. You've tried to talk your way around it...mentioning the House for whatever reason...but the main point still stands. Your stories about how much Obama spends when compared to the past 3 Republican presidents are based on nothing.

Blah, blah, blah...different story for a different thread. You can give the credit to your uncle if you like, I don't care. The bottom line is that Obama isn't as bad as Bush, Bush I and Reagan. Period. Oh, a side joy, Reagan was the worst out of them all...so much for that fallacy of him being such a great president.

Yes it has, the numbers used are disingenuous.

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to use CBO projections for a budget that has already been spent, unless you are trying to fudge the numbers.
