| U.S. military veterans overwhelmingly support Mitt Romney to take over as president Mitt Romney Enjoys Huge Lead Among Veterans The former governor's edge among men is almost entirely explained by veterans. U.S. military veterans overwhelmingly support Mitt Romney to take over as president from Barack Obama, according to a new Gallup poll released on Memorial Day. Among veterans, who make up around 13 percent of the adult population, Romney enjoys a 24-percentage-point lead over Obama, 58 percent to 34 percent, while Obama has a four-percentage-point lead among non-veterans. Veterans prefer Romney over Obama by large margin This should lay to rest the idiotic idea that veterans ever supported Ron Paul in significant numbers, as well any notion that they supported Obama. Hopefully this will lead to Obama be removed from office. | ||||

First, there wasn't, to my knowledge, a claim of huge veteran support for Ron Paul. From what I saw the claims were made he got quite a bit of support from active military. While active military is a subset of veterans, I'd imagine most of the retired military wouldn't support him. Second, even if there was a claim of huge veteran support of Ron Paul, this article does nothing to disprove it. The same people supporting Romney over Obama now could have been supporting Paul over Romney.

| Active duty service members supported Ron Paul because he wanted to drastically shift our foreign policy from what it's been for nearly a century and not try to police the world. It's a tough pill for some conservatives to handle because underneath all their rhetoric lay that ol' manifest destiny pipe dream that has the US having some moral obligation to dictate every aspect of life to the world. I'd say we have plenty to fix within our borders first. However, I wouldn't think it wise to completely pull our brains out of the every spot across the world we currently reside in. | ||||

Of the military members who cared enough to support a candidate, Ron Paul had the overwhelming majority of that support. More than all the other republicans added together.

| I think you're the one who is confused about this. No one said he carried the entire military and if they did, they would be wrong. What kind of system do you think we have? Last edited by Salty Dog; 05-30-2012 at 06:25 PM.. | ||||

I'm not ignoring our presence in the Pacific. Rather, I'd question why territories granted to us after WWII are still an absolute necessity to 2012 USA? China? Russia? I get it. North Korea? Maybe. But there are plenty of places we don't need to be.
