Senate Republicans Block Equal Pay Bill - Democrats hope to score points in November

It's quite disturbing how many votes there were for this bill. 52-47

What's even more disturbing is how Obama and company accuse people who disagree with them of hating women. The sheeple libtards will eat it up and truly believe everyone who opposes this bill hates women.

The "equal" bill has grants for negotiating skill training for women. How equal is that? Why not negotiation training for all? The bill seems to start off a bit backwards. Also, the negotiation training shouldn't be necessary anymore

I think negotiation skill training would be quite beneficial for all. Get rid of the mandated gay history classes and give kids something that could actually benefit them in the future.

In my experience, women who know how to negotiate get paid more than others at their level.

I disagree with most of this. There shouldn't be any affirmative action for women. I also don't think negotiating is their issue. There is no real fix for this problem. You try to be too "fair" to women, you shit on someone else...like you said with the classes for all. There aren't too many men that know how to negotiate either so that portion evens out in my opinion.

The bigger problem in my opinion regarding negotiating are these idiot college kids. They come fresh out of school, haven't had to play in the employment system beyond menial jobs, and take whatever money they get offered because they don't know any better...and they won't get offered any better. There's no negotiating with people that won't negotiate. They'll find someone else that will take the money more often than not.

Something that could be a fix would be to give the child tax breaks to women only. That would inch their compensation up a little and let's face it...they do a majority of the child raising anyway.

Here are the reasons I think they are held back:
1. There is likely less urgency for women to ask for or demand a raise. Our culture puts a lot more pressure on men to be the bread winners.
2. Women have children and are likely more distracted by having children. Some of this has to do with the motherly instinct, and some of it has to do with culture.
3. Sexism. IMO, this is rare for most positions. We can't deny that this doesn't happen at all levels though. One of my client's is a woman owned and run business. Pretty much all employees are women and definitely all managers are women. (this is a big company who pays a few million per year in rent alone). The point is that the business owner decides who they are most comfortable working with and those decisions may be influenced by gender.

I don't quite understand this.

I agree that having children can hold a woman back. There's a lot of good reason for that. Having two or more children is even more hectic. I am not sure they need to be compensated for that, however.

It's just something I thought of that might help. Right now, my wife stays home with the baby...but if she does get a job, it will be menial and I will just file taxes jointly. I'm getting the child tax credit right now. If just women got it, working women with kids would get that break...but men not. It's not a fix by any means. Just trying to think of ideas that would help possibly.

It's indirectly related. My state recently mandated gay history classes and the schools have to remove something to fit it in. The schools here are figuring out classes to cut. I would be much more comfortable with the state mandating a practical skill be taught such as negotiation.

Also, I think we are trying to fix a problem that will fix itself. My wife and I have the same degree and worked at the same company. I graduated sixth months earlier than her and she was (she is staying at home with our daughter now) making more than me.

Engineering has been extremely male dominated, and it's still odd to see women engineers around, but the ones we do have aren't underpaid. The main resistance is coming from the oldest who will soon retire or die.

I think the main challenge with young women is that emoloyers are fearful to some degree of her getting pregnant, needing days off during the pregnancy and then 6 or more weeks off for delivery, followed by the occasional " my kid is sick, I have to go"

I'm not saying that women shouldn't be in the workplace. But only one gender vsn have the children, unfortunately it has it's pluses and minuses.

And? That's the point...to try to even the playing field. Chances are the single dad makes more than the woman doing the same job. There's not a good fix but I was merely making a suggestion.

So your solution is to correct discrimination with federally legislated discrimination? I thought the point of socialism was to get rid of such things.

How about we stick to the subject at hand? I was merely making a suggestion to help fix it. I don't see any of your suggestions. Another thought I had was to immediately pass legislation that makes all pay even if you work the same position within a company...but that's a little too much...so I took a more toned down approach. (and it's STILL "must attack Donkey." Go figure.)

But I like your whole "hey, too bad for women" approach. Seems to be status quo.
