Apple said it already holds a patent for a “universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system.”

Usually when crap this stupid actually gets a patent it gets overturned in court, but not this time. If this is the case google's search box you can install on windows computers violates the patent as well. This search feature was also available on the Logitech Revue I had.

The defense of the patent system I always hear is that it will stifle innovation if we don't protect new ideas. This idea is neither new nor innovative, but Google's solution to this so far is to hand consumers a worse product by disabling the phone search feature. A study that came out estimated patent troll costs at $29 billion last year.

I'm so sick of this Apple vs Google bull. Apple's products are all hype and they're using these bullshit patents to stop Google from making phones that are better. I read somewhere that Samsung --- not an American company provides more jobs in America than Apple does.

It's hardly just apple versus google. Samsung is suing everyone too. In fact, most tech companies are involved in lawsuits at the moment. Google was the exception because everyone seemed afraid to sue them, but no more.

I think patents have their place but I also think they need to be limited. A search box? Really? There are search boxes everywhere that perform that same exact function. In Linux, Windows, in browsers of all types. This judge was an idiot.

This was just a calculated move to create extra cost for a competitor. A great example of the system being abused. And many of them do it.

Samsung is closely aligned with Microsoft for their surface tablets and surface computer. Google is google.

Might we see a day where they gang up on Apple? What if one day an Apple OS device couldn't use Bing or Google?

My point was that patents in their current form do more harm than good. No patents would be better than this.
