Pelosi's Promise

Bryan over at hotair makes some good points; the candidates for positions of power in Congress are riddled with scandals in the past, but why are we not hearing much about them? What about Pelosi's promise of the most ethical Congress ever? Pelosi's Promise could be poo-poo.

Everybody’s talking about Nancy Pelosi’s choice to back Okinawa Jack Murtha, Abscam figure taped entertaining bribes from undercover FBI agents in 1980, to be the House Majority Leader over the more centrist Steny Hoyer. Hardly anyone’s talking about the other choice she’s signalling–on the House Intelligence Committee. Pelosi, in what looks like a fit of personal pique, will apparently pass over Rep. Jane Harman, the Committee’s ranking member. Which leaves Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida to chair it, if seniority carries.

That would be impeached corruptocrat Alcee Hastings, removed from the federal bench for accepting a bribe back in 1989. Apparently unfit for work in the private sector, Hastings went from being impeached by a Democrat Senate to getting elected to a then-Democrat House. And now he’ll head up one of our most strategic committees in the House, while we’re at war.

So a theme begins to emerge from the Pelosi reign even though it’s a few months from starting–promise the most ethical Congress ever, while promoting Democrats who accept or entertain bribes while also using her newfound power to settle personal vendettas. Is Pelosi signalling that she has a price, too? What next–will Pelosi send Rep. William “Dollar Bill” Jefferson back to the House Budget Committee? Don’t be shocked when she does.

On the bright side, Pelosi’s reign promises to be entertaining.

Her promise would be poopoo? Has any party ever run a totally transparent congress? Has any party been 100% ethical? Hell no and I'd be willing to say that it'd be damn near impossible given the voter history of this country.

So much for respect of Lieberman and moderates that got elected! The good news is Murtha may be shot down even with Pelosi backing!

Let us hope so!

Pelosi is going to provide the conservatives with plenty to talk about in the future. It'll be fun.

Murtha was key to Pelosi winning the whip position in 2001 which set her up to become Speaker in 2007

If she didn't publically write that letter, I'd find her to be unethical...personal loyalty is one of the highest virtues

I don't know what kind of moral values you were raised on...but if my best friend helped me get a job that launched my career, got arrested for selling drugs, and is out and now wants somewhere to live for a few months...he's free to stay at my place...you have to be loyal or else you're just another ungrateful faggot

I find it hard to believe you really mean what you're saying because I've never heard anyone show those kind of values...maybe its a suburbia thing? I've only lived in rural and urban areas

You can't compare politics to personal relationships.

However, going along with your analogy, would you hire him for an important position in your company, or recommend him for a high position somewhere else, if your reputation depended on it? I would hope not...

Be careful what you accuse me of, because I have more experience in this arena that you think.

You have got to be kidding?

CREW is pissed. THEY at least seem to be sticking to their guns about wanting corruption out of politics. Shame it only works one way with you. That tells me a lot....

"Future House Speaker Pelosi’s endorsement of Rep. Murtha, one of the most unethical members of Congress, shows that she may have prioritized ethics reform merely to win votes with no real commitment to changing the culture of corruption," CREW's executive director, Melanie Sloan, stated today. "How can Americans believe that the Democrats will return integrity to the House when future Speaker Pelosi has endorsed an ethically-challenged member for a leadership position?"

Oh come on, it shows her great character by placing corrupt politicians into power because they are friends...didn't you know?
