What are colleges teaching students today...

Best overheard of my week..

I was standing at the bus stop, waiting to go to campus and I overhear several individuals standing not too far away. They are talking pretty superficially about the past election..who ran, who won..and someone asks one of the girls, what her political affiliation was.

What was her answer?

"Oh, I'm an atheist. I don't believe in political parties."

The conversation continued!! No one said anything!!! What is the world coming to???

I hate to tell you, but people are like that in medical school, law school, and graduate schools as well

Some people just are simply REALLY adverse to certain subjects, like politics

A large group in particular, is extremely adverse to the politics/history/philosophy/geography combination

I know people at Jefferson medical school who think McCarthy burned witches when our country was founded about 400 years ago :/

These same people are doing so well in medical school they are likely to become brain or heart surgeons

I think you find that alot when people are exceptionally gifted in a certain area. I know a guy who is an electrical engineer. He is really smart when it comes to math and that sort of thing.. but he calls up my brother whenever he has to send out an e-mail because he isn't sure what words to use. He didn't even know that we were in Iraq fighting for like a year after it started.

I also had a room-mate in college who would forget the word for "knife" but could write computer code like crazy. It's odd.

Why use words though if you don't really know what they mean? It's not a matter of necessarily what you know, but how you express the knowledge you have...

Trying to sound smarter than they really are would be my guess.
