Pelosi pushing for Murtha, but will Hoyer win?

Pelosi is pushing for Murtha; hard. She really doesn't want Hoyer to win.

Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is imploring her colleagues to support Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) for majority leader, multiple House Democrats said yesterday, dealing an unexpected but not necessarily fatal blow to Murtha’s opponent, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).

It had been unclear until yesterday whether Pelosi would use her clout to turn votes to Murtha. She endorsed him in a letter Sunday, but some dismissed it as a nod to personal loyalty rather than a statement of her intentions.

But by yesterday, her intent was clear, several lawmakers said; she hopes to oust her onetime rival Hoyer from the leadership.
But apparently Hoyer is beating Murtha 90-32.

To sum it up:

“Either way, it’s damaging,” the member said. “She will have a tremendous road to hoe to repair the damage she’s done.”

Well I'm sure he's changed as this is going to be a totally transparent congress.

I would rather they vote for who they think would be a good majority leader. It appears Pelosi is pulling a GWB and endorsing one of her right hand men and not necessarily who is best for the position.

The vote is tommorow...you could just wait until then to write about this...but anyway

Let's bring up an incident from 26 years ago of which he didn't get any ethics charge let alone conviction...maybe he SAID something shady 26 years ago, ok lets villify the guy for life

He's not a hypocrit, when he came to Congress as a conservative Northern Democrat his mission was to get money to his district, and he lived up to it, and then one time he was on tape looking shady...thats it

You guys make him sound like Bob Ney or something

If Murtha, as majority leader, does corrupt stuff, then call him on it, he hasn't been in the 110th congress one day and you're already deriding him

I think he deserves the spot, Hoyer works to undermine the non-Blue Dogs constantly, he's said Colbert isn't funny (that is a good point because it shows how out of touch he is), and he's a general ass about things

Murtha was the brave voice who spoke up at the behest of the Pentagon which not only helped framed the Iraq debate but helped the nation realize it had to throw out the GOP

This will be the first real test to see if they understood that it was moderates that saved them this election! And I would say Hoyer by a considerable margin.

As for the "Colbert" remark I think this says more about the maturity of people who get their political insights from Comedy Central than if Hoyer is Hip enough for the majority leadership!

I am counting on your party leadership to believe that!

Some choice quotes from Jim Webb:

From Born Fighting on treatment of white Protestants:

"For the last 50 years the Left has been doing everything in its power to sue them, legislate against their interests, mock them in the media, isolate them as idiosyncratic, and publicly humiliate their traditions."

From American Enterprize Magazine:

"I cannot conjure up an ounce of respect for Bill Clinton when it comes to the military."

On the Liberal Elites who reviled the military in the 60's and 70's:

they "were trying to destroy the foundations of American Society."

Also said Jane Fonda can "Kiss my Ass!"

"With so many conservative-leaning candidates at the forefront of the Democratic effort, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) has, at least for now, stuck to a minimalist agenda that steers clear of grand, liberal ambitions. Instead, Democratic leaders are focusing — and almost all serious Democratic candidates are campaigning on — a more limited, six-point agenda that includes raising the minimum wage, repealing tax breaks for oil companies, restoring college tuition tax breaks, cutting Medicare drug costs and other plans they believe could draw bipartisan support."

I know, but some people don't! But since you brought it up why is it relevant to the discussion?

You mean Softball? I am sure Matthews hit him with real hard questions and followed up on evasive talking point answers!

If I were selfish I would wish him the best of luck. But for the good of the Nation I hope he fails.

You mean the same ones that cried corruption in the Republican party as their corrupt members were stepping down?

Oh yeah, you guys were the first ones to call for DeLay, Ney, etc to resign

The Washington Times was calling for Hastert to resign and I didn't see that on here
