so you want to increase the taxes on the poor and working class while cutting the rich's taxrate

1 Remove all the bs wiretapping/echelon/etc....
2 End drug war. Legalize weed and other light drugs (lsd, peyote)
3 Start attacking business and goverments that hire or protect illegal immigrants. This includes throwing the employers in prison and going after the cities that ignore illegal immigrants

Obviously there would be a minimum income requirement.

If the first x dollars is not taxed, then the tax rate changes with more income.

cut off is 10k, everything after that is 10%
Guy makes 20k and pays 5%
Guy makes 50k and pays 8%
Guy makes 100k and pays 9%

Everyone has the same exemptions though so that is IMO a flat tax.

What? There are no exemptions. If you make 100k, it's 10% of 100k. 50k? 10% of 50k. People that only make a certain amount (adjusted yearly to compensate for inflation, cost of living, whatever) do not get taxed at all.

So everyone doesn't have hte same exemptions? So if I make 29,900 and 30,000 is the cut off I pay zero tax, but the person making 30,000 pays 3000 in taxes? Why would I want to make that extra money?

Send that memo to Bush! There is a theory going around that stock market investors are happy not because the Dems won in 2006, but because that victory might bring gridlock in the Federal Government for two years!

10% on anything over the cutoff? So if you make $31k you get taxed 10% on the $1k, and owe $100?

It's a shitty system that would absolutely suck but at least it would approach almost being fair that way.

My flat tax system would work similar to that, everyone gets the same exemptions regardless of income. I'd rather do that then create entitlements like EIC. This way the lower class pay zero but dont get back huge sums of money at the end of each year that double or triple the amount they paid in taxes throughout the year.

Everyone pays 17%........everyone. Individuals, businesses, corporations that sell products here......EVERYONE. That's more than what Ross said was enough but still low enough that most should not be negatively affected.

How can you say it wont negatively affect people? If you make 20k/yr its damn hard to come up with an extra 3600 bucks.

I didn't. I said it won't negatively affect *most*.

And when i was teaching and making $21,100 I would have LOVED only paying $3600 in taxes.
