When it comes to typical social program stupidity I am all for the Dems cutting their own throats. But now they play games with all of our safty. Two years of flirting with disaster is not worth even a sure Presidential victory in 2008!

I agree. I don't mind if Harmon goes, but suggesting Hastings as a replacement is irresponsible and a sign of party weakness.

"suggesting"

How can you not even suggest a member of Congress who is the next in line?

"oh, that black guy is next, and he was found not guilty, but he was impeached, lets go back to the white girl!" that would go REAL SWELL with the CBC

Don't sweat too much, it looks as though Reyes or Holt will get the nod over Hastings and Harman

He's not next. And the idea that he would be next in line doesn't mean you should support a corrupt politician for an important position when you're trying to form an ethical party.

Praise for Pelosi, get used to it, her 100 hours are coming soon, it's going to be pure brilliance when she runs her blitz in January before the President makes his state of the union

Your link is completely unrelated. It speaks nothing of Murtha or Hastings. Try this link from the same site:
RealClearPolitics - Articles - Pelosi, Hastings and the Future of House Democrats
Your article has to do with her disagreeing with the idea of the draft. Something only 2 members of Congress agreed with last time it was brought up. That's not exactly something that comes as a shock or should be praise worthy in my book. All it does is show the Democrats were hypocrites when they scared America into thinking the Republicans would be the ones trying to instate a draft.

Back on to the relevant topic, Alcee Hastings was bought by the mob. What makes you think he won't sell info or make decisions based on what enemies to our society want? He's basically done it before...
That's the problem right there. He is not the person we should be handing national security information to. He couldn't even get a job with the lowest security clearance in our military or government because of his background, yet Pelosi wants him to lead our Intelligence Committee. Give me a break. There is absolutely nothing that could be said that could defend such an idea.

She may have erred getting involved in a messy internal Democratic leadership fight about which few outside the Beltway cared. But, the new House speaker had the political acumen to slap down one of her own whose personal agenda could damage the Democratic Party's.

Did you read your article:

Pelosi, who as the nation's first female House speaker, is the face of the Democratic Party until it nominates a presidential candidate in 2008. She is making sure she does not make a mistake like Clinton's.

Even though her term doesn't actually begin until the new Democratic Congress convenes in January, last week she quickly squashed the efforts of Charles Rangel, one of the party's most senior lawmakers, to push his pet idea of reinstating the military draft.
It's about Rangel. If anything it suggests she "erred" getting involved in the previous mess (half a sentence dedicated to the incident in the entire article), but the entire rest of the article is about Rangel's draft idea. So if anything it says she made a mistake on the issues we're talking about. Thus proving my point. I agree, it was smart of her to drop the draft idea. Only Murtha and Rangel would likely have voted for it this time around and it would have embarrassed her party even more than she recently has. But we have other threads on the Rangel incident.. of which I agreed with Pelosi (much like just about every other politician in America). This thread is about the corruption of Pelosi and her picks of corrupt politicians for her "ethical" congress.

No matter what she does, many people on this board are going to try and spin it into bad news.

Selecting impeached judges for reasons of bribery and corruption to lead our Intelligence Committee is somehow good news? This is being spun and twisted how? The only twist I see is bringing the draft and Rangel into discussion as if it clears everything else she's done.

She hasn't selected anyone yet

Sit back, do you really think if Howard Dean was on saying Denny Hastert was going to appoint an impeached judge, when in fact no decision had been made, would you be on here supporting Dean's words?

No, you'd be calling him a partisan loon who is jumping the gun

Of course she has. She has selected Hastings and Murtha. We'll see if the Democrats confirm her selection this time. For the sake of our nation, I hope not.

Nonetheless, Pelosi has made known her intentions to force ranking Democratic committee member Jane Harman, D-Calif., to step down, clearing the way for Rep. Alcee L. Hastings of Florida.
She is supporting Hastings. The name wasn't brought up out of thin air. There's reports coming out from all over Washington saying Pelosi supports Hastings over Harman. And she has made no attempt to correct it. And she's already told Harman she won't be supporting her.

Like I said before, Hoyer said he will support Pelosi's decisions on committees

So it is whatever Nancy wants

And LOTS of people want Harman off, the CBC pushed for Hastings and Pelosi is considering him...I don't see ANY evidence that she has ruled out Holt or any other ranking members

Pelosi rejects Hastings bid to head committee

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida, impeached as a federal judge in 1989 on corruption charges, dropped his bid under pressure on Tuesday to chair a congressional panel designed to help protect America's security, a party aide said.

Hastings took the action after being told by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, in line to head the U.S. House of Representatives when the new Congress convenes in January, that she would not give him the coveted job, the aide said.

As House speaker, Pelosi decides who in her party serves on the committee that helps oversee federal efforts to protect the United States.

Last week, Hastings made a public plea for the post, arguing that despite being removed by Congress as a federal judge, he did nothing wrong and was cleared by a court of the corruption charges.

But Pelosi decided against picking Hastings for the chairmanship and told him at a private meeting. She has not yet decided who she will name instead, the aide said.

Hastings, a popular politician in Florida, was elected without opposition on November 7 to an eighth term in Congress.
One less thing we'll need to worry about. Glad to see she did the "right thing," even if it was mostly for appearances.

Me too. I could care less why she did it. All I know is people dissenting and the Democratic party as a whole is listening and moving away from the corruption. This is great news. The Dems are looking for the middle road here and it's nice to see a political party act as the Dems are as a whole. If only they didn't have that bitch Pelosi running the show...

Good thing we don't have anyone jumping the gun around here and making assumptions

I like how she's such a bitch yet she got the full vote for speakership, and it was HER DECISION on this, no one elses

Nancy on her own, able to do whatever the fuck she wanted, picked Reyes to chair the committee...again screwing over the CBC, which took several days to get them calm down and take the decision lightly

Excellent job Nancy, the only question is:
Great Speaker or Greatest Speaker?
