Some Great Media Bias Quotes:

“The elephant in the newsroom is our narrowness. Too often, we wear liberalism on our sleeve and are intolerant of other lifestyles and opinions....We’re not very subtle about it at this paper: If you work here, you must be one of us. You must be liberal, progressive, a Democrat. I’ve been in communal gatherings in The Post, watching election returns, and have been flabbergasted to see my colleagues cheer unabashedly for the Democrats.”
Washington Post “Book World” editor Marie Arana in a contribution to the Post’s “daily in-house electronic critiques,” as quoted by Post media reporter Howard Kurtz in an October 3, 2005 article.

“There is, Hugh, I agree with you, a deep anti-military bias in the media. One that begins from the premise that the military must be lying, and that American projection of power around the world must be wrong. I think that that is a hangover from Vietnam, and I think it’s very dangerous. That’s different from the media doing it’s job of challenging the exercise of power without fear or favor.”
— ABC News White House correspondent Terry Moran talking with Los Angeles-based national radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt, May 17, 2005.

“I worked for the New York Times for 25 years. I could probably count on one hand, in the Washington bureau of the New York Times, people who would describe themselves as people of faith....I think one of the real built-in biases in the media is towards secularism....You want diversity in the newsroom, not because of some quota, but because you have to have diversity to cover the story well and cover all aspects of a society. And you don’t have religious people making the decisions about where coverage is focused. And I think that’s one of the faults.”
— Former New York Times reporter Steve Roberts, now a journalism professor at George Washington University, on CNN’s Reliable Sources, March 27, 2005.

“I know a lot of you believe that most people in the news business are liberal. Let me tell you, I know a lot of them, and they were almost evenly divided this time. Half of them liked Senator Kerry; the other half hated President Bush.”
— CBS’s Andy Rooney on the November 7, 2004 60 Minutes.

“Of course it is....These are the social issues: gay rights, gun control, abortion and environmental regulation, among others. And if you think The Times plays it down the middle on any of them, you’ve been reading the paper with your eyes closed.”
New York Times Public Editor Daniel Okrent in a July 25, 2004 column which appeared under a headline asking, “Is The New York Times a Liberal Newspaper?”

“Where I work at ABC, people say ‘conservative’ the way people say ‘child molester.’”
— ABC 20/20 co-anchor John Stossel to CNSNews.com reporter Robert Bluey, in a story posted January 28, 2004.

“There is a liberal bias. It’s demonstrable. You look at some statistics. About 85 percent of the reporters who cover the White House vote Democratic, they have for a long time. There is a, particularly at the networks, at the lower levels, among the editors and the so-called infrastructure, there is a liberal bias. There is a liberal bias at Newsweek, the magazine I work for — most of the people who work at Newsweek live on the upper West Side in New York and they have a liberal bias....[ABC White House reporter] Brit Hume’s bosses are liberal and they’re always quietly denouncing him as being a right-wing nut.”
Newsweek Washington Bureau Chief Evan Thomas on Inside Washington, May 12, 1996.

Andy Rooney is a Liberal, but an honest liberal and sometimes funny. And now we know why Brit Hume went over to FOX!

It means a great deal. We know ALL media has some sort of bias and those that try to portray themselves otherwise are just a bunch of liars.

There is no such thing as media bias, just sensationalist ways of saying things to grab people's attention to sell papers and up ratings.

Gee....didn't see this one coming. No, they are not. Matter of fact, the balls they have to make the claim they are is what makes them worse than all the others.

This must be a joke, no one would back your opinion

They are the most biased news network on television today, FOX News clearly has the collective GOP wang stuffed in their mouths at all times.

Everyone knows FOX is biased, that they claim they're not just tries to woo in the idiots.

Recently I changed newspaper to one I agree with more politically, I know it's biased, but it also has a lot more stuff I want to read about. I'd bet it's the same thing with tv channels and why FOX grew popular, it targeted a group which many channels were biased against.

Of course not.

But then again conservatives have called me the usual insults because on other boards I've criticised them, and I do the same thing to liberals and of course they've resorted to call me their usual insults to no end when I've criticised them.

Many posters on this board, or any other discussion forum, either liberal or conservative, are not fair and balanced and only have their issues at heart. For example, liberals only see the death and refuse to believe that rebuilding Iraq is any good. But for conservatives seem to almost ignore the threat of the combatants (I don't want to call them insurgents any more but that's another subject) who are doing their best to destroy everything if they don't rule. But the only reason they see like this is that of partisan politics, and really can't see beyond it and are hopelessly locked in this cycle. Like plato and the cave.

Oh sure, they may be very intelligent about it, but they just can not see their own political and personal prejudices in this manner. They can not help themselves and can not see. It's like opposite sides of the coin.

George washington warned us against this kind of thing when he spoke of the destructiveness of political parties (encouraging partisan politics), and was against the formation of Political Parties for similar reasons. He discussed many of these reasons in his farewell address. And he was right on the money.

Americans are so polarized becaause of the partisan politics. because of this polarization, they feel they are not being protected enough so must go to to the government to hopefully iinfluence the government to enact legislation on their behalf to protect their interests, whatever they may be. Good examples of these kinds of things are called nanny state laws. They are laws which are designed to save you from yourself, or regulation on citizen's lives. Seat belt laws are an example. In the south, the illegalization of some kinds of sexual acts and positions are also an example. Here's an article from Wikipedia if you're interested in more:

Nanny state - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But we all have our prejudices and bias. All of us.

I don't know how many more times this has to be pointed out to you before you get it.

There is so much bad going on there, that the good really doesn't matter. It's like trying to piss into the wind. If I bulldoze your house but manage to fix that bump in your driveway, are you going to thank me?
Who cares if we build a school if the people who were going to work there are blown up in the street?

Exactly, it's all about putting it into perspective.

I don't think anyone claims that some good isn't being done over there. Schools, roads, infrastructure, all of that is great. You know, until it's destroyed the next day as it gets in the middle of the civil war we helped create.

It's sad because it's the same blinders the Administration has been wearing for the last year or so has things have descended into chaos and the violence has increased to unbearable levels.

Also, every media outlet is bias. It's just the nature of being run by humans.

However, there's different degrees of being bias, and there's also being partisan.

Fox is both incredibly bias and incredibly partisan, to such a degree that the only other media outlet that can really come close is the NY Times..

Why i still see a difference between the NYTimes and Fox is that I am virtually certain Fox News would never have broken the Mark Foley story, although if you do a post look up you'll see they knew some details long before it broke...they will not break a story that will destroy republicans

The NYTimes would take any scandal from any party and publish it the next day if it was verified (NYTimes was working on the Lewinsky scandal along with everyone else when Drudge broke it without the usual verification)
