That's too cute that little girl...

And 7960, that's funny "JESUS CHRIST!" LOL

I think it's funny when kids say stuff like that. I think that those phrases and stuff that are maybe adult, and maybe just mimicking what they have heard adults say, I think it's fine as long as they use it in the right context and understand what they are saying. I wouldn't say anything around my kid(s) that I wouldn't be ok with them saying themselves, and it's important to teach them the difference.

My 7 year old has been playing Call of Duty on his computer. He loves it. It has a few mild swear words and anytime I hear one I say "Remember, don't say those words, ok?" He rolls his eyes and says "I KNOW dad." So the other day he and a friend are playing outside with their toy guns and I hear my son say "Kraut Bastards over the hill!!!"

First I laughed, then I yelled.

My wife and I waited 13 years before our first kid. Sometimes I feel like we waited too long, like when my sons want to play me in soccer. Then other times I think it was just right. Those times come when I see young people that have kids that seem to think their lives are over and have regrets. We don't. We had SOOO much fun and did so many things those years before kids.

That's how we feel... we don't want to rush it, but we don't want to wait too long either. We're thinking 30-33 is a nice balance (or, ate least we do now...)

I'm ok about watching my mouth because i'm used to working around kids but my wife swears like a sailor on shore leave sometimes. My kid is just starting to talk now and I know it's only a matter of time before those words start flying.

My Husband and I are the same way. I curse like a sailor, and he's got better management.

there are a few words that my kid *knows* are words for adults, and when he slips, I don't flip on him, I correct him and tell him a better word...

Right now, his thing to say when he gets mad:

"I hate people."

He says that when he is really mad at me, but is getting around saying "I hate you." So, he just makes it a general remark.

So, I just tell him, OK, go hate people in your room, and come out when you are ready to love everyone again.

But, he got that from me, because when I watch the news, I tend to say "I hate people."

I think you kinda can. I think it just makes it more work in teaching appropriateness of what they are seeing and what not.

And you have to be prepared for the wrong thing to come out when you don't expect it....

Meh, they're just kids!

See, I don't think you can for the first 5 years especially. Kids that young lack the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong. They don't do what's "bad" because they don't want to be punished. I certainly don't want to punish my 5 year old because he says "fuck" if I'm saying it all the time. And if he says it at preschool or gets someone else's kid saying it (god, that's a horrible thought), then he most certainly would get in trouble from someone else.

It's a 2-faced world, and when they're young like that, the best way to keep them doing the right thing is to do the right thing yourself. Once they have an established sense of right and wrong, however, then things change.
