A movie dropped because it offends Christians?

No, I don't know of one, but here the city of Chicago wants to drop a movie because it might offend non-Christians

'Nativity' Booted From Ill. Holiday Fair

CHICAGO (AP) - A public Christmas festival is no place for the Christmas story, the city says. Officials have asked organizers of a downtown Christmas festival, the German Christkindlmarket, to reconsider using a movie studio as a sponsor because it is worried ads for its film "The Nativity Story" might offend non-Christians.
Why people refuse to see how Christians and their beliefs are often targeted in this country baffles me.

This pretty much sums it up

Kounelias said she finds it hard to believe that non-Christians who attended something called Christkindlmarket would be surprised or offended by the presence of posters, brochures and other advertisements of the movie.

"One would assume that if (people) were to go to Christkindlmarket, they'd know it is about Christmas," she said.
Gotta love the Democrats that run Chicago!

And don't forget Dogma, Last Temptation of Christ, or a thousand other movies that mock Christianity. But wait, they weren't dropped from anywhere.

As usual, it's perfectly fine in this country to insult Christians and mock their beliefs, but don't dare do it to anyone else.

Are there no Christians offended by a movie studio placing ads for a film called 'the nativity' by sponsoring a comerical venture piggy-backed on Xmas?

There were IIRR some UK local councils that refused LoB a 'rating', thus effectively banning it in their area.

Either way, I very much suspect that many films get a smaller distribution in parts of the US because of commercial considerations linked to religious beliefs. Which is fair enough & isnt the same as 'dropping', ..., but then a council 'asking' organisers to 'reconsider' isnt exactly 'dropping' either.

Lastly, I am shocked, shocked I say, that no one has complained that some Muslims find all film itself blasphemous, regardless of content.

I'm very much looking forward to the pages of stuff about the rights & wrongs of Koranically inspired pickets outside porn cinemas & the like.

The Passion of the Christ was another film that spurned much controversy. There were many claims that it would cause 'anti-semitism' or offend Jews (like they really cared)...but that never happened.

There were claims that it was the goriest film they had ever seen. But let's be real here, is that the truth? With movies out like 'Hostel' how could ANYONE say that the Passion was the bloodiest?

IMO, most of those complaints were due to the fact that it was a Christian movie. Despite the negative reviews, the negative comments, and all attempts to keep it out of the mainstream, I'm thrilled that it was one of the most successful movies of all time.

Was 'hostel' made at the time of PoC's release?

I think the reason christian faith is targeted is rooted in the rampant hypocrisy of many of it's followers.. They demand government intervention when some minute aspect of society's behavior 'offends' them (omg, are they liberals now!?), but when freedoms are secured which permit nonbelievers to do 'unchristian' things, they immediately claim it causes them sufferage.

The thing with stereotypes is that they are usually birthed by some repetitive behavior of many individuals in a particular sect. Christians have no one to blame but themselves if others view them as intolerant hypocrites after being demonized and in turn treat them intolerantly. Whether it's gay marriage, abortion, drugs, sex, bio-research, movies, books, games, or music, it seems they've always got axes to grind. If Christians want to be accepted for who they are, then they must work on their tolerance of other philosophies and spend less time drumbeating the latest 'sacrilege' on this 'godly' country. If that happened, situations like this one would be non-issues. Those officials would be more apt to realize the greater truth: "hey it's christmas, a christian holiday!" and not mind because this particular situation does seem ridiculous. Censorship is bad no matter who calls for it.
