| Bush calls Latin American presidents AP - President Bush called two Latin American presidents Thursday whose countries are in the middle of leadership changes. Bush's calls to outgoing Mexican President Vicente Fox and Ecuador's President-elect Rafael Correa came as the U.S. leader was flying back to Washington after a four-day trip overseas. Bush called Fox to wish him well as he ends his presidency Friday with the inauguration of President-elect Felipe Calderon, said National Security Council spokeswoman Kate Starr. Starr said the call and the other to congratulate Correa each lasted a few minutes. The left-leaning Correa has worried Washington with calls to limit foreign debt payments. He is friends with anti-U.S. President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Correa has called President Bush "dimwitted" and wants to limit U.S. military activities in Ecuador. Starr said Bush congratulated Correa personally and the Ecuadorian people more broadly for their commitment to democracy. "The two leaders expressed their interest in working together to solve common problems," Starr said. ___ On the Net: Welcome to the White House Last edited by motivez; 12-01-2006 at 03:02 PM.. | ||||
