So Just how close was Iraq to an A Bomb?

Burried in a New York Times article is this little jem:

"Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq had abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein’s scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.

European diplomats said this week that some of those nuclear documents on the Web site were identical to the ones presented to the United Nations Security Council in late 2002, as America got ready to invade Iraq. But unlike those on the Web site, the papers given to the Security Council had been extensively edited, to remove sensitive information on unconventional arms."

So just what is it that is so classified that we are not seeing? And why does the New York Times bury this in paragraph 14?

Who knows, but if it were damning of the GOP it would be front page news and the writers would be willing to to go to jail to defend it.

And if it were REAL evidence, Bush and CO would have plastered it everywhere so they could justify this Iraq bullshit...alas, they haven't...therefore the information is nothing.

Does anyone think that Bush and the GOP wouldn't leap on any shred of evidence in their favor?

The mere fact that they haven't proves that it is a non-issue.

They uploaded the plans to build a nuke on their own GOP website for all to see. Even though the head of intelligence pressured these ignorant Republicans not to publish the "How to Book" on building a nuclear weapon.

And to the OP; This is a plan that Saddam had in 1992 but was quickly thwarted when Israel bombed his french-made nuclear reaction facilities. And as well they assassinated the international nuclear scientists working on the project, it was ensured that Iraq would never be capable of producing an atom bomb in late 1992, over 14 years ago his capabilites were destroyed.

I think the only writer to go to jail was a NY Times reporter for defending GOP sources, her reporters role was as a mouthpiece for the neoconservative movement
