| I disagree. It has nothing to do with "too personal" and everything to do with being able to be 50' away and not worry about the guy taking it away. If I had to kill someone I'd choose a gun not because I won't get my hands bloody but because there's FAR less of a chance of him taking a gun from me during the process. | ||||

| Things like gun laws take years before they actually make a difference. If there was a ban on say, handguns, it would probably take 20 years before there was a noticable difference. There are millions of hand guns. If you think rounding up 12 million illegals is tough, try rounding up millions of guns. There is no solution other than time. First you have to plug the hole and in this case remove them from all retail stores, make it illegal to buy, sell, or have one. There would have to be centers where you could turn them in, say for tax credit or deductions. Those caught with handguns would have them confiscated and punished accordingly via fine or jail time. 20 years of that and you might be able to get rid of 70% of them. So the whole "gun laws are not affective because they break the law anyway" is kind of inaccurate. The ban on machine guns has been affective, it just took a lot of time before machine guns were weeded out. How many crimes have been done with automatic weapons? Very few. Years from now if they banned hand guns, it would be just as affective. Sure it would happen occasionally but chances are the SUV driver would not have had one if handguns were banned 20 years ago. | ||||

There has been one murder with a legally owned automatic weapon since 1934. How many murders do you think have been done by illegally owned automatic weapons ? So in the end we still have gangsters with them and the only people affected were law abiding citizens. Great law. | ||||
