| Seriously you want to go by how liberal the op-ed people are at the NYTimes Quite Liberal: Frank Rich Bob Herbert Maureen Dowd Paul Krugman (Although certainly the most respected of the bunch as he's a professor of economics at Princeton) Quasi-Liberal: Kristof Centrist Mostly Sometimes Liberal: Thomas Friedman Conservative: David Brooks Middle of the Road Libertarian: John Tierney People don't really seem to appreciete #1 How amazingly talented and non-partisan the NYTimes Newsroom is #2 How amazingly talent the columnists are Kristof is known around the world and his humanitarian work is so noted that even Bill O'Reilly wouldn't attack him when Kristof baited him Paul Krugman is known just as well in economic academic circles as in political circles, a very rare feat, and can write complicated economic situations in simple english Tom Friedman is known around the world as an American-Jew welcome in the Middle East, not because he is "liberal" (he called for the Iraq Invasion) but because of how brilliant he is and how engrossed he becomes in the local politics and culture Maureen Dowd's sharp wit has won her multiple words including a Pulitzer Frank Rich's writing style is simply masterful William Safire recently quit, but he was possibly my favorite conservative as he really stuck to his principles without trying to call the other side idiots Since Safire left, two things have changed Brooks was added, he is a strong conservative and some of his writings sound a little too DCish for my taste (I prefer Bob Novak for my conservative op-ed readings, from the Sun-Times) Tierney was added, and his libertarian articles don't really strike me as having the same calibur as something like Kristof could write Bob Herbert went away from his expansive writing style and went into an anti-Bush tirade that has gone on for two years, whenever I read his articles anymore I feel like I am reading a post off of crooksandliars that I already read So, its not perfect, but especially if you go in the early 2000s, the NY Times Columnists simply blew everyone else out of the water when it came to intelligence, writing style and straight up talent | ||||
