nor does saying they were christian mean they necessarily disregarded the idea of freedom from religion. so now that we can agree their status as christians tells us nothing about freedom from vs. of religion, all we're left with is what they said and their writings, a lot of which evidenced a distrust of organized religion, which makes is quite plausible they envisioned freedom from religion.

Wrong. You're right in that we can go on their writings - much of which is hostile to organized church controlled government. Such as what was in Europe. They were not hostile to religious beliefs or practices. Only religious control of government. They were not for "freedom from religion" since most were religious.

Someone is forcing you to practice a religion? Who is this person, I'd like to meet them.

Then you would have equal rights to celebrate it.

But the ACLU is against even mentioning religion in public.

When my tax money pays for a religious celebration, i'm forced into practicing that religion.

I wonder what you guys would say if a city had a Islamic festival on public land and payed for by public money?

Really, so when I pay tax dollars that go towards the support of Israel I'm "forced into practicing" Judaism?

But remember the ACLU is against even allowing religious groups equal access to public land. Now how is that right ?

Boy Scouts/Church picnics are banned from city parks but anyother group can use the same park.

I did need this entertainment.

It reminds me of the recent stoty about PETA going after what a church posted on their web page as a "living" nativity! Abusive exploitation of animals! It turned out that the church was not planning the use of live animals, so none were "harmed" in that Nativity!

Elimination of taxes would take care of this.

If they banned a black group or a gay group it would be illegal discrimination, so how is it good to ban a group of people with a religious belief ?

And dont use the argument that the Boy scouts are discriminatory themselves because every club is discrimnatory

The founders who held communists beliefs did so in their youth when they had little to no knowledge of how STALINIST soviet russia worked

When outside information was finally recieved, that sort of communist was roundly rejected, the founder himself wrote a book: A New Slavery (describing communism and its horrors)

When communism first broke out, it was a fascinating idea, and youths were certainly attracted to it, even today the idea of it working its very enticing, almost everyone would love to live in a TRUE communist state...because as described its utopia

To say how that is some sort of ACLU support for stalinism...its ridiculous

you should make another thread about this...but its like charity work (its fun!) you don't do it for the "reward" you do it for the betterment of man and for respect...not for "cash"

Working your ass off for some more pieces of paper being thrown your way, sounds like what someone would say to debase a stripper

You want a way to look at it, most people I've met (conservatives and liberals) would love to live in the TNG Federation, which clearly is a communist utopia

You have to look at the the real view of the federation was, ala GR, who laid the work for the episode where its explained to Mark Twain what the Federation is really about...and there are no "federation credits"

DS9, some others...move in the direction of some form of currency in SOME limited situations but...you really should make another thread about this we're going to take this topic ridiculousy...offtopic
