The Iraq war is lost

Given the recent turn of events in our political system, I'm sad to say the Iraq was is over. We've given up.

I think we should pull out everything as fast as possible. The longer with hang around with zero morale the more our troops are in danger over there.

"Giving up" on a bad situation that we shouldn't have been involved with in the first place is not something bad, it is something good.

The long-term effects of this will be great if we pull out of all of the Middle East, not just Iraq.

I disagree with that too. All we need is for the Middle East to unite as one and try to take over the rest of the world.

It's true. It's over. We need to pull out completely, immediately.

Where they getting the money to build a fleet of ships and money to get long range bombers? It would take a defense budget that rivals ours to even get started. They don't sell THAT much oil. Not to mention they have a hard time enough getting along with themselves. They are still fighting over which version of islam is correct...and that fight has been going on for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Has anyone wondered what "winning" would have looked like?

Among many things that have troubled me about this "war", one stands
out and has from the beginning.

Initially we were intent on removing Hussein, and the threat he posed.

So that meant rebuilding Iraq's political system along democratic lines.

A dictator replaced by representative government; sounds okay but isn't
there a piece missing?

Does this seem to anyone else like a joke that everybody's in on except
you?

Am I the only one not laughing?

I kept hearing about how wonderful democracy would be, and how the
Iraqi's would thank us for the effort.

I kept looking for someone to mention a "bill of rights" to protect the
minority elements from being bulldozed by the shiite majority.

A democracy without a "bill of rights" can be sad affair. Fifty percent
plus one vote can terrorize minority groups worse than any dictator.

With a dictator the terrorized always at least know from where their
suffering springs.

But with a democracy the suffering is spread across the mob, otherwise
known as the majority.

In my country we no longer need a "bill of rights" because political
correctness has erased and stamped out minority elements.

Back in the 1780's when my country was migrating from thee "Articles of
Confederation" to a new form of government (along democratic lines),
the promise of a "bill of rights" was considered essential to gain support.

So, as this thing draws down, has anyone else wondered, in the absence
of a dictator, why there hasn't been much talk about a "bill of rights"
for these people.

Should we expect another "strongman" to move in?

Could that be the joke?

Could that explain much of the violence?

Just a thoughe on the eve of our departure.

Nobody thought China would be much of anything a couple decades ago, either.

And yes, they DO have that much oil. Considering that demand continues to go up, their oil only brings in more money.

We will never nuke a country that has nukes of their own.

Seeing as how the middle east is setup (kingdoms, ect) that would never occur.

We really should have said fuck it and dumped all the money into R&D for alt fuels so we could forget about hte middle east totally.

If we can kick the oil addiction, they can go back to living in their sand huts and cutting each others heads off over stolen fruit

When I see thread titles like this where it's negative about the war and something that many people have been saying for a long time, and it's like you've just come to grips with it.

So, I wonder, at what point do you think we lost? Did this happen yesterday that suddenly everything that has conspired for years was winning up until now?

Welcome to reality, too bad it took you about two years longer than the rest of the country.
