New friends of the Democrats

Recently it was reported by both Israel and even a Palestinian terrorist group that 'top US Democrats' were meeting with Hamas in a 'secret location'.

JERUSALEM – Hamas met with a delegation of "important Democrats" who expressed interest in relations with the Palestinian terror group even if it doesn't recognize the right of Israel to exist, a Palestinian news website claimed today.

Maannews quoted a source in the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority stating the terror group felt it important to meet with members of the Democratic Party since, the Hamas source said, the party will likely win 2008 presidential elections.
Ok, so that's questionable, but today it's now reported that the Democrats are now courting the socialists of Europe. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for 'good relations' with the rest of the world, but who exactly should we be working with on this?

"Europe needs an America that is back on track," said Portuguese Socialist Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country is hosting the meeting.

"We need, today more than ever, to reinforce and renew the strategic alliance between the United States and Europe," Socrates said. "We know that a stronger Democratic Party is key for this to happen."
What exactly is 'back on track' according to socialists?

Are socialists and terrorists really groups that we need to befriend in order to get along well in the world?

Maybe...

Probably respecting the rest of the world, not alienating our allies, and actually working on a middle east peace process that is made of substance rather than rhetoric.

Doesn't matter that they're socialist. They've always been socialist. Should we stop talking with Sweden because they aren't a carbon copy of America?

And, you can't solve problems without working to solve them. You can ignore them and pretend they're irrelevent and talk a lot of shit like Bush has done, but that's the wrong approach for solving problems.

I really don't like the idea that Bush has perpetuated that talking to your enemies is a sign of weakness, or that it means you have to give something up, or whatever.. luckily most everyone (including feverent Bush supporters) have begun realizing that policy is simply foolish.

Until we trash our society and economy as much as they have theirs the answer is yes. Envy is as old as the bible if not older. If America was a capitalist and Democracy failure they would never hate us so much!

I think it is the "back on track" remark that gets the attention here. Not the idea of talking. This tollerance of differences must go both ways. Does Bush tell Socialist Europe to get "back on track?"

It's pretty obvious the "back on track" aspect is referring to diplomacy and alliances rather than economics or something similar. You can see that from this statement:

"We need, today more than ever, to reinforce and renew the strategic alliance between the United States and Europe,"
The socialist aspect is irrelevant.

Exactly. We have to be very careful with whom we seek advice from regarding getting 'back on track'. I have no problem talking with them, but it why have secret meetings with terrorist groups, or why limit your meeting with socialists only? Why not include everyone? After all, more than socialists have been upset with Bush. We should be talking to all of them, not some of them.

Would you consult a drug addict for help with your personal life? A murderer? A racist? Likewise, we don't need to consult socialists or terrorists to make our country better.

I like how you equate socialists with terrorists and murderers.

I've not equated anyone to another. I've simply lumped them together as people we shouldn't take advice from.

You should take another look at how they work their economics and politics. These are not seperate things to socialists. Look at the European Union agreements. You are thinking of Capitalist "hands off" rules that don't apply.

Bush says you need to get "back on track" on Iraq and the war on terror. So lets have a nice talk about how you went off the rails?

It seems it very well may be...

Hamas confirms meeting with group of Democrats

The source told Maannews the Democrats expressed an understanding with the Hamas principal of not recognizing Israel and applauded Hamas' willingness to accept a long-term cease-fire with the Jewish state in exchange for an Israeli withdrawal to what is known as the pre-1967 borders – meaning an evacuation of the Gaza Strip, West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem.
Yup, sounds like the Democratic mantra

I also understand what Hamas is talking about, and also feel it is good they accept a cease fire agreement.

BTW just because i am understanding their point does not mean i agree with it. ... much like what happens with discussions on this board.

Why? Because you don't like them? Sure, go ahead and give me a negative rep for it. It only makes you look more ridiculous, and sets the stage for everyone getting a negative rep for any source someone doesn't like.

They are more credible than wikipedia, which gets posted on here all the time.

Not to mention I said 'it may be true...'
