New Mexico Gov.Bill Richardson will be making a run for the White House in 2008, the Democrat confirmed to FOX News on Thursday.
"I've dealt with the issues that are very important today — national security, immigration and energy," said Richardson, who was Secretary of Energy and later UN Ambassador during the Clinton administration.
In addition to his previous experience in the Clinton White House, Richardson believes that his Hispanic heritage will be an advantage in his campaign for the presidency.
"I am Hispanic, which I believe is an asset," Richardson said. "But I'm not running as an Hispanic, I am running as an American who is proud to be Hispanic."
Richardson said that he does not intend to form a presidential exploratory committee until January. He has, however, begun hiring national campaign staff, and plans a visit to early primary state New Hampshire in mid-January.

Very cool. He's a smart guy. I think it's a quality addition to the Democratic field. This is pretty good news.

seriously, you think looks aren't part of the contest? we've got candidates getting botox, getting $2,000 haircuts while their plane clogs a busy airport, we've got candidates using *WAY* too much "liquid tan" and getting out there for as many photo-ops with "pretty people" as possible.

sorry to break the news to you honey, but looks factor into the equation for some people (probably too many)

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson said yesterday that he will decide next month whether to form an exploratory committee and begin a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"I've got to make a decision in January," he said in a campaign-like speech on immigration at Georgetown University. He called Georgetown "a sort of testing ground" for potential candidates.

Richardson, the nation's only Latino governor, said immigration must be a high priority for congressional Democrats. Legislation on immigration has been mostly stalled this year, and Richardson said the issue will resonate with voters.

"Democrats shouldn't be afraid that their majority will be threatened if they do" address it, Richardson said.
Speaking to his presidential ambitions in an interview with Fox News yesterday, he said, "I'm not running as a Hispanic; I am running as an American who is proud to be Hispanic."
