I did not attempt to question the rationale mainly because it would not have made a difference, so to save myself some serious grief and lack of sleep, I nodded my head in agreement and said ok.

The baby would not have been "medicated" if she'd received an epidural.

I'm not saying she had to have one or even that she should have had one. I'm just saying that not having it "for the baby" doesn't make sense.

Was this after the birth? Because some Mom's opt out of the pain meds if they are breastfeeding. I'm not able to breastfeed, so I'll take em! Because even after birth the uterus contracts for a couple days, and then if there was tearing or and episitomy, that hurts too, so it's not like it's over when the baby is out, it really takes weeks to recover, and the first couple, they will give pain relief for. But, it can make the baby groggy, although they would never give Mom something that would hurt the baby, it just makes it harder for the baby to get really really into awake mode.

I had a Spinal this time, and they give it a morphine chaser, so she got some of that, and it took a day or two for her to really wake up...

But good for you for just nodding! That's the smart thing to do!

It was the morphine that did that, not the spinal (you mean epidural?). The baby doesn't get "drugged" from an epidural.

Yes, this was an excellent choice

Yeah, it was the morphine that did that, but I wouldn't have had it another way. They wake up eventually....she's been home with us almost two weeks, and now she's up for a couple hours a day, so it was a good buffer...

They did give her meds for the pain after giving birth and they gave the baby a shot. I have no idea what the shot contained but the baby stayed in the hospital an additional day because she did not wake up during the time they thought she would and was not able to eat. Finally the following day she started waking up longer than 5 minutes so that she could be fed and was checked out completely before letting her go home. She is now 5 months old weighing 22 lbs and about 24 inches long. I am 6'6 so I expected her to be long.

I believe we all have a skill. Mine is finding exactly the perfect thing to say to send someone over the edge.

Case in point... my wife was having an "I hate being pregnant day" and was taking it out on me. I took it for a while and finally told her she needed to stop. She snapped and said "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE PREGNANT!!!" and I said "Yeah, and you don't know what it's like to live WITH a pregnant woman."

That was a bad day.

Ouch. That's no good.

Honestly, the whole time I was pregnant, my Husband and I seemed to be totally seperate people living under the same roof. The only interaction we had was when I needed him to carry something for me. Now that I'm not pregnant, I feel desperate to have the relationship I once did have with him, but being pregnant, then having a newborn and the tax on sleep that can be, and the frustration of adjusting to being a family of four, it's hard for him and me both to let our guard down again and just be fundamentally a couple.

We aren't a couple anymore, we are in a family that just got bigger and we all have to adjust, and it takes time, this I do know. But, it's hard.

The horemones don't help. Sometimes I think he's being mean and sarcastic and hurtful, he says he is joking. Sometimes I think he doesn't love me anymore, and I'm only here because he ended up with kids with me, and that he doesn't love me like he used to, but I only feel that way because of how much I am reading into everything he says and does. The horemones make me trip, and I hate now knowing where my own head is at. Never doubt the power of female horemones in a pregnant and post partum woman, they are strong, and they can make the wife you know unrecognizable.

It's tough. If I could take the last 11 months back and do it over, I would prepare my Husband and I more than I prepared my 3 year old for this change. Because right now, we have to start over, and seriously try to fall in love all over again....it's hard...

that's the hormones talking........ you're BOTH over-tired and stressed and all that, but how he *really* feels about you hasn't changed in the last 11 months.

there are two ways to tell

1. are you lips moving?
2. is your hubby making that face?

either of those should be proof enough.

He half-laughed and said something like "I understand" or "it's ok" or "I know you've been through a lot", or he hugged you and didn't really say anything.

Right? Which??
